Frederick Cook (Australian Politician)
Frederick Albert Cook, known by his second name Albert, (22 March 1883 – 23 December 1971) was an Australian politician. He was born at Baddaginnie to storekeeper Frederick John Cook and Maria Dosser. After a state education he carried on his father's stores in Baddaginnie and Benalla. On 26 December 1915 he married Neva Garland Mowatt, with whom he had five children; a second marriage on 20 April 1943 to Kathleen Flora Curry produced two further children. He served on Benalla Shire Council from 1924 to 1964 and was twice president (1931–32, 1953–54). In 1936 he was elected to the Victorian Legislative Assembly for Benalla as a United Australia Party-aligned independent. The electoral district of Bendigo was an electorate of the Victorian Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Victoria. Centred on the city of Bendigo, the district was formed when the electorates of Bendigo East and Bendigo West were merged into a single district in 1927. Bendigo was abolished in 1985 when it was once again split into separate East and West districts. Arthur Cook (Australian Politician)
Arthur Ernest Cook (6 September 1883 – 10 April 1945) was an Australian politician. He was born in Sandhurst to engine driver Robert Cook and Mary Daley. He attended state school before becoming a hairdresser, owning his own business in Bendigo from around 1901. On 28 April 1909 he married Mary Victoria Rocke, with whom he had four children. He served as vice-president of the Bendigo Trades Hall Council and was on the Labor Party's state executive from 1916 to 1918. In 1924 he was elected to the Victorian Legislative Assembly as the Labor member for Bendigo West, transferring to Bendigo in 1927. The electoral district of Caulfield is an electoral district of the Victorian Legislative Assembly. The electorate is surrounded by the other electoral districts of Prahran, Albert Park, Malvern, Oakleigh, Bentleigh and Brighton. It covers the metropolitan suburbs of Caulfield, Caulfield North, Caulfield South, Caulfield East, Elsternwick, Gardenvale, Ripponlea and Balaclava and parts of St Kilda East, St Kilda, Glen Huntly and Ormond within South-East Melbourne. Harold Cohen (politician)
Brigadier Harold Edward Cohen, (25 November 1881 – 29 October 1946) was an Australian soldier, lawyer and, like his grandfather Edward Cohen, a Victorian State politician. Early life Cohen was the son of Montague and Annie Cohen and born in St Kilda, Melbourne. He married Freda Pirani on 4 December 1907, and they had two sons and two daughters. Cohen was educated at Xavier College where he was the first Jewish boy to attend the school. He was School Captain in 1898 was President of the Old Xaverians Association from 1919-1920. He continued his studies at Melbourne University. Prior to being a politician, Cohen was a solicitor, soldier and a company director. Finlay Cameron
Finlay Arthur Cameron (22 June 1886 – 21 February 1959) was an Australian politician. He was born in Wauraltee in South Australia to farmer George Muir Cameron and Elizabeth Jane Miller. His family moved to Victoria in 1891 and Cameron attended state schools before inheriting property at Bangerang in 1909. In 1911 he married May Victoria Marshman, with whom he had seven children. As a farmer he was an executive member of the Victorian Wheatgrowers' Association from 1927 to 1932. Electoral District Of Northcote
The electoral district of Northcote is an electoral district of the Victorian Legislative Assembly. It covers the suburbs of Alphington, Fairfield, Northcote, Thornbury, and part of Preston. It lies on the northern bank of the Yarra River between the Merri and Darebin creeks. The seat was created in 1927 as a replacement for Jika Jika, and has been a safe Labor seat for most of its existence. It has only been held by seven members. The seat's most historically prominent member is 34th Premier John Cain (senior). Upon Cain's death in 1957, he was succeeded by Frank Wilkes, who went on to become state Labor leader from 1977 to 1981. Former ABC newsreader Mary Delahunty was elected in a 1998 by-election. John Cain (senior)
John Cain (19 January 1882 – 4 August 1957) was an Australian politician, who became the 34th premier of Victoria, and was the first Labor Party leader to win a majority in the Victorian Legislative Assembly. He is the only premier of Victoria to date whose son has also served as premier. Early life Cain was born, one of 18 siblings, in Greendale, Victoria, near Bacchus Marsh. His father, Patrick Kane, was an Irish-born Roman Catholic who worked as a small farmer and contractor. As a young man John Kane changed the spelling of his surname and converted to Anglicanism. He left no personal papers and very little is known about his youth (so little, indeed, that reference works published during his lifetime, and shortly after his death, continued to give the year of his birth as 1887). The electoral district of Geelong is an electoral district of the Victorian Legislative Assembly. It centres on inner metropolitan Geelong and following the June 2013 redistribution of electoral boundaries includes the suburbs of Belmont, Breakwater, East Geelong, Geelong, Geelong West, Newtown and South Geelong, Herne Hill, Manifold Heights, Newcomb, Newtown, St Albans Park, Thomson, Whittington and part of Fyansford. The seat first existed from 1856 to 1859 as a four-member seat. It was split into Geelong East and Geelong West in 1859, but re-created in 1876 as a three-member seat.
