Mark Olive (born 1962), also known as the Black Olive, is an Aboriginal Australian chef. Olive was born in Wollongong in 1962 and is a Bundjalung man. Aboriginal Australians are the various Indigenous peoples of the Australian mainland and many of its islands, such as Tasmania, Fraser Island, Hinchinbrook Island, the Tiwi Islands, and Groote Eylandt, but excluding the Torres Strait Islands. Message Stick
A message stick is a graphic communication device traditionally used by Aboriginal Australians. The objects were carried by messengers over long distances and were used for reinforcing a verbal message. Although styles vary, they are generally oblong lengths of wood with motifs engraved on all sides. They have traditionally been used across continental Australia, to convey messages between Aboriginal nations, clans and language groups and even within clans. In the 1880s, they became objects of anthropological study, but there has been little research on them published since then. ''The Chefs' Line'' is an Australian reality competitive cooking show. The series features four home cooks in each episode who compete against professional chefs in a studio kitchen. The challenge is to create their personal versions of a chosen dish from the week's featured cuisine. Dishes are then blind-tasted and judged by executive chef Dan Hong, food writer Melissa Leong, and chef Mark Olive. The contestants are eliminated until the week's winner is chosen. Dan Hong
Dan Hong (born 1982) is an Australian chef, restaurateur and television host. He is the executive chef at a number of restaurants under the Merivale company. Early life Hong's parents were born in Vietnam. His mother Angie came to Australia under the Colombo Plan to study chemical engineering. His father was a postgraduate electrical engineering student. They subsequently opened a number of Vietnamese restaurants in Sydney called Thanh Binh. Hong attended Epping West Public School and Barker College but showed little interest in schooling. After attending a cooking school in Chatswood, Hong undertook a traineeship at the InterContinental Hotel and went on to an apprenticeship at Longrain, Pello Restaurant and Marque.
