''Music for 'Bubble is an album by Robert Pollard, released in 2005. It collects his score for the film ''Bubble'' directed by Steven Soderbergh. Background ''Music for 'Bubble'' is Pollard's first film music release. Pollard made contact with Soderbergh after the director mentioned in an interview his love for Pollard's music. Previously, Soderbergh had used a song from Pollard's band Guided by Voices in the closing credits of his film ''Full Frontal'' and had written an introduction to the book "Guided by Voices: A Brief History." In 2004, Soderbergh attended a show on the Guided by Voices farewell tour, The Electrifying Conclusion, where the two met. Initially, Soderbergh was inspired by the film's setting in Ohio, where Pollard was based, to ask the musician for a song to go with a specific bar scene. Robert Ellsworth Pollard Jr. (born October 31, 1957) is an American singer and songwriter. He is the frontman and leader of indie rock band Guided by Voices, which he also the band’s only constant member. In addition to this, he has also released 22 solo albums. He has nearly 3,000 songs registered to his name with Broadcast Music, Inc., BMI. In 2006, ''Paste Magazine, Paste'' magazine listed him as the 78th-greatest living songwriter. ''Bubble'' is a 2005 American crime drama film directed by Steven Soderbergh about three low-paid doll factory workers, one of whom is murdered. Soderbergh also shot and edited the film under the pseudonyms Peter Andrews and Mary Ann Bernard, taken from his father's given names and his mother's maiden name, respectively. The film was shot on high-definition video. Guided By Voices
Guided by Voices is an American indie rock band formed in 1983 in Dayton, Ohio. It has made frequent personnel changes but always maintained the presence of principal songwriter Robert Pollard. The most well-known lineup of the band consisted of Pollard (lead vocals), his brother Jim (guitar, bass), Mitch Mitchell (lead guitars), Tobin Sprout (vocals, rhythm guitars), Kevin Fennell (drums), and bassist Greg Demos. Noted at first for its lo-fi aesthetic and Portastudio four-tracks-to-cassette production methods, Guided by Voices' music was influenced by early post– British Invasion garage rock, psychedelic rock, progressive rock, punk rock and post-punk.
