Mid Dunbartonshire
Mid Dunbartonshire is a constituency of the House of Commons in the UK Parliament. Further to the completion of the 2023 review of Westminster constituencies, it was first contested at the 2024 general election, when it was won by Susan Murray of the Liberal Democrats. Boundaries The constituency comprises the following wards of the East Dunbartonshire council area: * In full: Milngavie, Bearsden North, Bearsden South, Bishopbriggs North and Campsie, Bishopbriggs South. * In part: Lenzie and Kirkintilloch South (virtually all the electorate), Kirkintilloch East and North and Twechar (small part comprising the northern areas of the town of Kirkintilloch). 2024 United Kingdom General Election
The 2024 United Kingdom general election was held on Thursday, 4 July 2024 to elect all 650 members of the House of Commons of the United Kingdom, House of Commons. The opposition Labour Party (UK), Labour Party, led by Keir Starmer, won a landslide victory over the governing Conservative Party (UK), Conservative Party under Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, ending 14 years of Conservative rule. Labour secured 411 seats and a 174-seat majority, the fourth-best showing in the party's history and its best since 2001 United Kingdom general election, 2001. Bearsden North (ward)
Bearsden North is one of the seven wards used to elect members of the East Dunbartonshire Council. It elects three Councillors. As its name suggests, its territory (which has not altered since its creation in 2007) consists of the northern part of the burgh of Bearsden, with part of the boundary to the south following the path of the Antonine Wall; it also borders the Drumchapel housing estate in Glasgow – the marked differences in average life expectancy and other factors between residents living in close proximity in the two areas has been remarked upon in various studies. Amy Callaghan
Amy Callaghan (born 21 May 1992) is a Scottish National Party (SNP) politician who served as the member of parliament (MP) for East Dunbartonshire from 2019 until 2024 when the seat was abolished and she came second in the newly established seat of Mid Dunbartonshire. She unseated the then Liberal Democrat leader, Jo Swinson, with a narrow majority of 149 votes or 0.3%, overturning her majority of 5,339 votes two years earlier. She was SNP Health spokesperson since and sat on the Health and Social Care Select Committee during her time in Parliament. Background Callaghan attended primary and secondary school in Clydebank. She then attended the University of Strathclyde where she gained a BA Honours in politics. Before pursuing a political career, Callaghan worked in retail, hospitality and social care. Electoral Calculus is a political consultancy and pollster, known for its political forecasting website that attempts to predict future United Kingdom general election results. It uses MRP (Multi-level Regression and Post-stratification) to combine national factors and local demographics. Milton Of Campsie
Milton of Campsie is a village formerly in the county of Stirlingshire, but now in East Dunbartonshire, Scotland roughly north of Glasgow. Nestling at the foot of the Campsie Fells, it is neighboured by Kirkintilloch and Lennoxtown. History The old church was built over the grave of St Machan around 1170 making it one of the earliest churches in Scotland. The railway station was built here in 1848 and originally simply called Milton Station. In 1912 it was renamed Milton of Campsie Station and it closed in 1951. Lennoxtown (, ) is a town in the East Dunbartonshire council area and the historic county of Stirlingshire, Scotland. The Campsie Fells are located to Lennoxtown's north. The town had a population of 4,094 at the 2011 UK census. History The Lennoxtown area was centered around Lennox Mill in the past. It was a bustling location where tenants of the Woodhead estate used to bring their corn for grinding. Numerous corn mills existed in the area, including Lennox Mill which was situated near the now since-demolished Kali Nail Works. Kirkintilloch East and North and Twechar is one of the seven Wards and electoral divisions of the United Kingdom, wards used to elect members of the East Dunbartonshire Council.
