The Kuril Islands or Kurile Islands are a volcanic archipelago administered as part of Sakhalin Oblast in the Russian Far East. The name for this genus comes from the Greek roots ''eu'' meaning "good", ''mikros'' meaning "small" or "little", and ''trema'' meaning "hole".
