Michael A. Kahn is an American businessman based in Charlotte, North Carolina. He is the founder and CEO of Kahn Ventures, Inc., which operates the 15th largest beer and wine distribution in the United States. In June 2006, Kahn bought the Charlotte Checkers, a minor professional ice hockey team that played in the ECHL. Michael Alexander Kahn (born February 4, 1949) is an American trial lawyer, a governmental official, a legal and political cartoon scholar, and a business leader. In 2015, Michael Kahn was inducted into the California Trial Lawyer Hall of Fame. He was honored for his forty-year career which included serving as the lead counsel in numerous landmark litigations. In addition to his legal career, Kahn was selected to serve in critical roles by three California Governors— Gray Davis, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Gavin Newsom—to address two of the greatest crises to face California in the early 21st century: the electricity crisis of 2000-2005 and the wildfire crisis of 2017-2022. During his career, Kahn was appointed to 16 government positions by state and federal officials. He was the artistic director of the Shakespeare Theatre Company in Washington, D.C. from 1986 until his retirement in 2019.
