Michael Benedikt (urbanist)
Michael Benedikt is an architect, urbanist, and academic. He is noted for formalizing and promoting the geographical concept called isovist. Benedikt is also an advocate of the interior design concept called "interiorist" practice. Biography He received his Bachelor of Architecture from the University of the Witwatersran (South Africa) in 1971 and his Master of Environmental Design (M.E.D.) from Yale School of Architecture in 1975. In 2003, he was awarded the University of Texas at Austin School of Architecture's Teacher of Year Award, and in 2004 was named a Distinguished Professor by the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA). Benedikt became a Visiting Professor at the University for the Creative Arts in September 2016. He has published over 100 articles and has delivered more than 85 invited lectures in the U.S. and abroad on architectural practice, design theory and research, computing, art, and ethics. Michael Benedikt (May 26, 1935Publications, Europa. ''International who's who of authors and writers''. Routledge, 2003. 48. Print. – February 9, 2007) was an American poet, editor, and literary critic. Biography Michael Benedikt was born in 1935 in New York City. He received his B.A. from New York University and earned a master's degree in English & Comparative Literature from Columbia University. Prior to publishing his first collection of poetry, Benedikt co-edited three anthologies of 20th-Century Poetic Theatre from abroad. His anthology of twentieth-century American plays was issued in 1968. He was also the editor of two landmark anthologies of twentieth-century poetry: ''The Poetry of Surrealism'' in 1974; and ''The Prose Poem: An International Anthology'' in 1976. Benedikt was Poetry Editor for ''The Paris Review'' from 1975 to 1978. His editorial selections are represented in ''The Paris Review Anthology'' in 1990.
