Metanoia (psychology)
In psychology, metanoia (from the Greek word μετάνοια, ''metanoia'', meaning “changing one's mind” or “repentance”) refers to a process of fundamental psychological transformation, often precipitated by crisis, breakdown, or existential conflict. It denotes a shift in an individual’s perception of self, others, or life itself—typically involving disintegration of an old identity followed by the emergence of a reorganized, more integrated self. The term derives from the Ancient Greek words μετά (Meta (prefix), ''metá'') (meaning "beyond" or "after") and νόος (Nous, ''noeō'') (meaning "perception" or "understanding" or "mind"), and takes on different meanings in different contexts. It is widely used in the New Testament, Greek New Testament, where it is commonly translated into English as "repentance". Key appearances include Mark 1:15, Luke 15#Verse 7, Luke 15:7, and Acts 2:38, where it signifies not only remorse but a radical change in one’s life-or ...

Happy Hour (King Missile Album)
''Happy Hour'' is the fifth studio album by experimental music band King Missile, and released on December 15, 1992, by Atlantic Records. The album is exactly one hour long, hence its title. Reception Ned Raggett of AllMusic wrote that "due in part to the return of Kramer to production – or in this case co-production – duties, along with a slew of more immediately memorable songs, ''Happy Hour'' trumps '' The Way to Salvation'' as the peak of the band's high-profile days, an inspired collection of tunes ranging from deranged pop to full-on epic metal stomp." The critic also said "thanks to a catchy arrangement via Rick's clipped, stuttered guitar riff and the sweetly sung title phrase in the background, the result is giddy left-field nonsense." and "it's the blessed liveliness of the whole album – at a premium in the days of full-on grunge when it came out, still rare enough years later – that makes it stand up so well." Trouser Press said " Hall's surreal accounts have ...

Metanoia (Porcupine Tree Album)
''Metanoia'' is a compilation album by British progressive rock band Porcupine Tree, first released on 10" double-vinyl on 7 December 1998, in a limited run of 1,000 copies. It is mostly made up of improvisations recorded during the '' Signify'' sessions, some of which were later shaped into songs. To help deter secondary- and black-market sales, the album was released on CD in December 2001 and re-issued again in 2006; it includes extra, previously released tracks from singles that were sequenced where they were extracted from the longform jams. The track "Mesmer I" became the basis for tour-only piece "Cryogenics," originally intended for '' Coma Divine'' but left out during mixing. A live recording of "Cryogenics" was later restored and released on 2020's EP ''Coma: Coda (Rome 1997)'' which made available through the official Porcupine Tree Bandcamp page. In a critical review oexpose.org the album has been described as "in every way the antithesis of ''Stupid Dream'', and s ...

Metanoia (rhetoric)
Metanoia (from the Greek , ''metanoia'', ''changing one's mind'') in the context of rhetoric is a device used to retract a statement just made, and then state it in a better way.Silva Rhetoricae (2006)Metanoeia As such, metanoia is similar to correction. Metanoia is used in recalling a statement in two ways, either to weaken the prior declaration or to strengthen it. Metanoia is later personified as a figure accompanying kairos, sometimes as a hag and sometimes as a young lady. Ausonius' epigrams describe her thus: "I am a goddess to whom even Cicero himself did not give a name. I am the goddess who exacts punishment for what has and has not been done, so that people regret it. Hence, my name is Metanoea." Qtd. in Myers, Kelly A. "Metanoia and the Transformation of Opportunity" RSA 41.1 pp1-18. Weakening The use of metanoia to weaken a statement is effective because the original statement still stands, along with the qualifying statement. For instance, when one says, "I will murde ...
