Medea (TV Serial)
''Medea'' is a 2005 Dutch television serial in six episodes directed by Theo van Gogh, starring Katja Schuurman, Thijs Römer and Tara Elders. It tells the story of the daughter of a politician who tries to help her selfish boyfriend to become the prime minister of the Netherlands. The screenplay was written by Theodor Holman and is a take on Euripides' play '' Medea'', with the story moved to contemporary Dutch politics. The serial was produced by Column Film for the broadcaster AVRO. It won the Special Prize and was nominated for the Golden Calf for Best Television Drama at the 2005 Netherlands Film Festival. Theo Van Gogh (film Director)
Theodoor "Theo" van Gogh (; 23 July 1957 – 2 November 2004) was a Dutch film director. He directed ''Submission (2004 film), Submission: Part 1'', a short film written by Somalia, Somali writer and politician Ayaan Hirsi Ali, which criticised the treatment of women in Islam in strong terms. On 2 November 2004, he was murdered by Mohammed Bouyeri, a Moroccans in the Netherlands, Dutch-Moroccan Islamism, Islamist who objected to the film's message. The last film Van Gogh had completed before his murder, ''06/05'', was a fictional exploration of Assassination of Pim Fortuyn, the assassination of Dutch politician Pim Fortuyn. It was released posthumously in December 2004, a month after Van Gogh's death, and two years after Fortuyn's death. Katja Schuurman (born 19 February 1975) is a Dutch actress, singer and television personality. Early life Schuurman grew up as the eldest daughter of a Dutch people, Dutch father and a Curaçao-born Surinamese mother of mixed Dutch, Chinese, Indigenous and African heritage. She is the older sister of singer and actress Birgit Schuurman (1977).
