Maine House Of Representatives
The Maine House of Representatives is the lower house of the Maine Legislature. The House consists of 151 voting members and three nonvoting members. The voting members represent an equal number of districts across the state and are elected via plurality voting. The nonvoting members represent three of Maine's Native American tribes, though two tribes have declined to send representatives. Each voting member of the House represents around 9,000 citizens of the state. Because it is a part-time position, members of the Maine House of Representatives usually have outside employment as well. Members are limited to four consecutive terms of two years each, but may run again after two years. The House meets at the Maine State House in Augusta. The Maine State Legislature is the State legislature (United States), state legislature of the U.S. state of Maine. It is a Bicameralism, bicameral body composed of the lower house Maine House of Representatives and the upper house Maine Senate. The Wabanaki Confederacy (''Wabenaki, Wobanaki'', translated to "People of the Dawn" or "Easterner"; also: Wabanakia, "Dawnland") is a North American First Nations and Native American confederation of five principal Eastern Algonquian nations: the Abenaki, Mi'kmaq, Wolastoqiyik, Passamaquoddy (''Peskotomahkati'') and Penobscot. There were more tribes, along with many bands, that were once part of the Confederation. Sean Faircloth
Sean Faircloth (born May 23, 1960) is an American writer, attorney and politician from Maine. A Democrat, Faircloth is currently a member of the Maine House of Representatives from the 24th district following a 2025 special election. Previously, he served as the State Senator from the ninth district, State Representative from the 17th, 117th, and 118th districts, and as Mayor of Bangor, Maine. While in the legislature, Faircloth was appointed to the Judiciary and Appropriations Committees. From 2006 to 2008, Faircloth was Majority Whip in the Maine House. The Maine State Treasurer is a constitutional officer of the U.S. state of Maine. The office is authorized by Article V, Part Third of the Constitution of Maine, Maine Constitution. The Treasurer is chosen by the Maine Legislature in joint session for a two-year term; the officeholder can serve no more than four consecutive terms. Responsibilities of the Treasurer's Office include providing financial services for all state agencies, issuing bonds and managing the State's debt, as well as holding unclaimed property and working to return it to its rightful owners. Joseph C. "Joe" Perry is an American businessman and politician from Maine. A Democrat, he is serving as the Treasurer of Maine since January 2025, and served previously in the Maine House of Representatives and Maine Senate. Politics Perry served in the Maine Senate from District 32, which included his hometown of Bangor and Hermon. He was first elected to the Senate in 2004 after serving from 8 years (1996–2004) in the Maine House of Representatives representing part of Bangor. Maine Green Independent Party
The Maine Green Independent Party is a state-level political party affiliated with the Green Party of the United States. It is the oldest state green party in the United States. It was founded following an informal meeting of 17 environmental advocates, including Bowdoin College professor John Rensenbrink and others in Augusta, Maine in January 1984. From 1994 to 2006, the party's gubernatorial nominees received between 6% and 10% of the vote. The speaker of a deliberative assembly, especially a legislative body, is its presiding officer, or the chair. The title was first used in 1377 in England. Usage The title was first recorded in 1377 to describe the role of Thomas de Hungerford in the Parliament of England.Lee Vol 28, pp. 257,258. The speaker's official role is to moderate debate, make rulings on procedure, announce the results of votes, and the like. The speaker decides who may speak and has the powers to discipline members who break the procedures of the chamber or house. Different styles are employed to refer to those who preside upper houses or Senates.
