Mahbubur Rahman (politician, Born 1940)
Mahbubur Rahman (5 January 1940 – 27 March 2021; ) was a Bangladeshi lawyer and politician. Career Rahman was a leader of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party. He was a member of parliament for Noakhali-3 constituency. He served as a member of parliament for four terms and 9 years as a minister in 9 ministries including education minister under Hussain Muhammad Ershad cabinet from 1986 to 1988. Rahman was elected to parliament from Comilla-7 as an Independent candidate in 1988. He switched from Bangladesh Nationalist Party to Jatiya Party (Ershad) in 2008. Rahman served as the vice-chairperson of Bangladesh Foreign Trade Institute. Rahman died of COVID-19 in 2021. Personal life Rahman had 4 sons and 2 daughters. Mahbubur Rahman (born 1 February 1969) is a former Bangladeshi cricketer who played in one One Day International in 1999. In the 1980s Mymensingh was a great hub for producing cricketing talent in Bangladesh. Mahbubur Rahman, also known as Selim, was one of the finest talents to come from there. A right-handed middle order batsman, he occasionally bowled spin as well. In the 1989 Under-19 Asia Cup, he scored 40 against Sri Lanka and 28 against Pakistan. Unfortunately he took too long to make the transformation to the senior team. Mahbubur Rahman (died 1 or 2 June 1981) was a Bangladeshi army officer and decorated war hero of the Bangladesh Liberation War. He was awarded the title of Bir Uttam, the second-highest gallantry award in Bangladesh. Early life Rahman was born in Banabaria village in Begumganj Upazila, Noakhali District.
