Magic (English Former Radio Network)
Magic was an AM radio network based in Northern England. History The Magic brand in UK radio originated with Greatest Hits West Yorkshire, Magic 828, the sister station of Radio Aire in Leeds which was launched in July 1990, although no other stations were branded 'Magic' until the Emap group purchased the Metro Radio Group in 1995. It can be regarded as the successor to Great North Radio which was a small network in the North East England, North East that consisted of what became Greatest Hits Radio Teesside, Magic 1170 and Greatest Hits Manchester, Magic 1152. Preston, Lancashire, Preston's Greatest Hits Lancashire, Red Rose Gold was the last to be converted to the Magic brand, in 2000, two or so years since the conversion of the majority of the stations. Medium Wave
Medium wave (MW) is a part of the medium frequency (MF) radio band used mainly for AM radio broadcasting. The spectrum provides about 120 channels with more limited sound quality than FM stations on the FM broadcast band. During the daytime, reception is usually limited to more local stations, though this is dependent on the signal conditions and quality of radio receiver used. Improved signal propagation at night allows the reception of much longer distance signals (within a range of about 2,000 km or 1,200 miles). This can cause increased interference because on most channels multiple transmitters operate simultaneously worldwide. In addition, amplitude modulation (AM) is often more prone to interference by various electronic devices, especially power supplies and computers. Magic (UK Radio Station)
Magic Radio is a British digital radio station owned and operated by Bauer Media Audio UK. The station is available on 105.4 FM in London, 106.5 FM in Bristol and across the UK on DAB Digital Radio, via Bauer's Rayo platform, and on Smart speakers. It plays "adult contemporary" such as Elton John, Madonna, Ed Sheeran, Whitney Houston, UB40, Simply Red, and more. It had previously been a part of a network of Magic stations broadcast on FM in London and on MW across northern England and began broadcasting across the UK via the Digital One multiplex in January 2015. On 5 January 2015, Magic Radio launched nationally on DAB and all other Magic stations were dissolved to form the Bauer City 2 network. Magic was a British music television channel owned by Channel Four Television Corporation. The channel played mainly easy listening music videos and was based on the Magic radio station owned by Bauer Media Audio UK. Magic focused on music from the 1970s to the present day. Greatest Hits Radio South Yorkshire is an Independent Local Radio station serving South Yorkshire and the North Midlands, which broadcasts as part of the Greatest Hits Radio network. As of March 2024, the station broadcasts to a weekly audience of 272,000 listeners, according to RAJAR. Technical The station broadcast on three separate frequencies, 990 kHz in Doncaster, 1305 kHz in Barnsley and 1548 kHz in Sheffield. It now just broadcasts on DAB. Greatest Hits Radio East Yorkshire & Northern Lincolnshire is an Independent Local Radio station serving East Riding of Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire. The station was replaced by a relay of Magic UK, as part of a restructure, on 1 September 2020.
