Macmillan Media is a multimedia company covering the UK and Ireland, working in Glasgow, Belfast, Dublin, Manchester and London, and owned by former BBC and ITN foreign correspondent Michael Macmillan. ''Daybreak'' regional news Until January 2013, Macmillan Media produced '' Daybreak Northern Ireland'' and '' Daybreak Scotland'' bulletins on weekdays at 06.15, 07.15 and 08.15. UTV, the local ITV contractor had not produced the bulletin since December 1994 due to a dispute between GMTV and UTV. UTV was replaced during GMTV (later '' Daybreak'') by Reuters, followed by ITN, then Macmillan Media. Macmillan Media began providing the GMTV news bulletins in Central and Northern Scotland on 3 December 2007. Q Radio is a network of seven Independent Local Radio stations in Northern Ireland airing an adult contemporary format. The network is the fifth most listened to radio station in Northern Ireland, with a combined figure of 335,000 listeners as of December 2024, according to RAJAR. The ''Belfast Telegraph'' is a daily newspaper published in Belfast, Northern Ireland, by Independent News & Media, which also publishes the Irish Independent, the Sunday Independent and various other newspapers and magazines in Ireland. TV-am
TV-am was a TV company that broadcast the ITV franchise for breakfast television in the United Kingdom from 1 February 1983 until 31 December 1992. The station was the UK's first national operator of a commercial breakfast television franchise. Its daily broadcasts were between 6:00 am and 9:25 am. Throughout its nine years and 10 months of broadcast, the station regularly had problems, resulting in numerous management changes, especially in its early years. It also suffered from major financial cutbacks hampering its operations. Though on a stable footing by 1986 and winning its ratings battle with the BBC's '' Breakfast Time'', within a year turmoil had ensued when industrial action hit the company. ''North Tonight'' was a Scottish nightly regional news programme covering the North of Scotland, produced by STV North (formerly Grampian Television). History During the late 1960s and 1970s, Grampian's regional news service consisted of daily 10-minute evening bulletins. By 1978, the bulletins had developed into a magazine programme entitled ''Grampian Today'', initially broadcast from Wednesday - Friday before expanding to every weeknight. The programme was relaunched as ''North Tonight'' on Monday 7 January 1980 in an effort to reflect the Northern Scotland region as a whole - its first presenters were John Duncanson and Selina Scott. ''Scotland Today'' was a Scottish regional news programme covering Central Scotland, produced by STV Central (formerly Scottish Television). Despite its name suggesting a national remit, the programme was actually limited to stories around STV's Central Belt franchise. '' North Tonight'' covered STV's North Scotland region (from North Fife upwards), until both programmes were renamed '' STV News at Six'' in March 2009. STV (TV Channel)
STV is a free-to-air public broadcast television channel owned and operated by the STV Group. It is made up of the Central Scotland and Northern Scotland ITV public broadcaster licences, formerly known as Scottish Television (now legally STV Central Ltd) and Grampian Television (now legally STV North Ltd) respectively. The STV brand refers to the on-air name used by Scottish Television for much of its history - notably in the 1970s and early 1980s. This brand remained in conversational use amongst the local public afterwards. The modern STV brand was adopted on Tuesday 30 May 2006 replacing both franchises' previous identities. The sense of continuity in the name was demonstrated when STV celebrated its 60th birthday in 2017, with special programmes broadcast on STV itself and STV2. ''Daybreak'' is a British breakfast television programme that was broadcast on ITV (TV network), ITV from 6 September 2010 to 25 April 2014. ''Daybreak Scotland'' (previously ''GMTV Scotland'') was the regional news broadcaster for the two ITV regions in northern and central Scotland, provided for the ITV breakfast station ITV Breakfast. The bulletins were produced for '' Daybreak'' (previously ''GMTV'') by Macmillan Media, and were broadcast from studios in Glasgow. Before 3 December 2007, the regional news opt outs during ''GMTV'' were provided by the ITV franchise holders in central and northern Scotland, STV Central and STV North respectively.
