History Of Luxembourg
The history of Luxembourg consists of the history of the country of Luxembourg and its geographical area. Although its recorded history can be traced back to Roman times, the history of Luxembourg proper is considered to begin in 963. Over the following five centuries, the powerful House of Luxembourg emerged, but its extinction put an end to the country's independence. After a brief period of Burgundian rule, the country passed to the Habsburgs in 1477. After the Eighty Years' War, Luxembourg became a part of the Southern Netherlands, which passed to the Austrian line of the Habsburg dynasty in 1713. After occupation by Revolutionary France, the 1815 Vienna Congress transformed Luxembourg into a Grand Duchy in personal union with the Netherlands. The treaty also resulted in the second partitioning of Luxembourg, the first being in 1658 and a third in 1839. Although these treaties greatly reduced Luxembourg's territory, the latter established its formal independence, which was ...

History Luxembourgish was considered a German dialect like many others until about World War II but then it underwent ausbau, that is it created its own standard form in vocabulary, grammar and spelling and therefore is seen today as an independent language, an ausbau language. The Catholic Archdiocese of Luxembourg ( la, Archidioecesis Luxemburgensis) is an archdiocese of the Latin Rite of the Catholic Church in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, comprising the entire Grand Duchy. The diocese was founded in 1870, and it became an archdiocese in 1988. The seat of the archdiocese is the Cathedral of Notre Dame in the city of Luxembourg, and since 2011 the archbishop is Jean-Claude Hollerich. History Early Christianity Christianity spread in Luxembourg from the city of Trier, along the Roman roads. The episcopal organisation of the area started in the late 3rd century with Euchaire and Maximin of Trier, and in the early 4th century, Materne of Cologne. The Christianisation of rural areas only came much later. Rural populations remained strangers to Christianity despite scattered islands in Arlon, Bitburg, Altrier and Dalheim. In the late 5th century, the Church was cut off from the power held by the new, Frankish arrivals, who were dedicated to the ...

Luxembourgers
Luxembourgers ( ; lb, Lëtzebuerger ) are a Germanic ethnic group and nation native to their nation state of Luxembourg, where they make up around half of the population. They share the culture of Luxembourg and speak Luxembourgish. Luxembourgers were, much like Austrians, historically considered to be a regional subgroup of ethnic Germans and viewed themselves as such until the collapse of the German Confederation. Luxembourg became independent, while remaining in personal union with the Netherlands, after the signing of the Treaty of London in 1839. The personal union proved short-lived as it was bilaterally and amicably dissolved in 1890.Cole (2011), p. 246 Legally, all citizens of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg are considered to be ''Luxembourgers'' per Luxembourgish law, although a distinct Germanic ethnolinguistic identification is vocally espoused and promoted. The corresponding adjective is "Luxembourgish". Location Most ethnic Luxembourgers live in the Grand Duchy o ...

De Wilhelmus
"" (; Luxembourgish for "The Wilhelmus") is the grand ducal anthem of Luxembourg. Lyrics for it were written in 1919 by Luxembourgish writer Nik Welter, although they are not often used in official performances. The anthem is performed whenever a member of the Grand Ducal Family enters or leaves an official ceremony, while the national anthem, "Ons Heemecht", is performed at national celebrations. History "De Wilhelmus" has a common origin with the Dutch national anthem, "Het Wilhelmus", which dates back to the 16th century, although they do not use the same melody and had not done so since around that time. Luxembourg was in a personal union with the Netherlands from 1815 until 1890, and the tune was played on a few official visits of members of the Dutch royal family to Luxembourg from 1883. "De Wilhelmus" became explicitly associated with the Grand Ducal family in Luxembourg by the end of the 1800s, around the same time "Ons Heemecht" was being popularised. In 1915, Lux ...

Deputy Prime Minister Of Luxembourg
The Deputy Prime Minister of Luxembourg is the second-highest position in the Luxembourgian cabinet. The Deputy serves a vital function in Luxembourg's collegiate cabinet system, deputises for the Prime Minister when he is absent, represents his or her own political party, and holds other government positions. Since the position was created, in 1959, almost all governments have been coalitions of two of the three major parties: the Christian Social People's Party (CSV), the Luxembourg Socialist Workers' Party (LSAP), and the Democratic Party (DP). The current government, however, consists of the LSAP, the DP and the Greens, a novelty. The Deputy Prime Minister has always been a leading politician from the junior coalition partner. Since 1989, the title of ''Deputy Prime Minister'' has been an official one, although the position had been unofficially known by that name since its creation. From the position's creation until 1989, the Deputy Prime Minister went by the name of t ...
