''Lotus Lantern'' (Simplified Chinese characters, Chinese: 宝莲灯; pinyin: ''Băo Lián Dēng'') is a 2005 Chinese television drama based on the Chinese fairy tale ''The Magic Lotus Lantern'' (劈山救母; ''Pī Shān Jiù Mǔ''). The 35-episode series was premiered on CCTV-8 starting on October 4, 2005. A prequel, ''Prequel to the Lotus Lantern'', was broadcast in 2009. Gods and demons fiction () is a subgenre of fantasy fiction that revolves around the deities, immortals, and monsters of Chinese mythology. The term ''shenmo xiaoshuo'', coined in the early 20th century by the writer and literary historian Lu Xun, literally means "fiction of gods and demons". Works of shenmo fiction include the novels ''Journey to the West'' and '' Investiture of the Gods''. ''The Magic Lotus Lantern'' is a Chinese fairy tale from the Tang dynasty (618–907). Story Sanshengmu was an immortal who had fallen in love with a mortal man. Her brother, Erlang Shen, was against it but she stole a magical lotus lantern and escaped the palace for earth-The lotus lantern, no matter which monster or fairy, as long as the lotus lantern shines, it will be shocked and convinced. Sanshengmu eventually had a son named Chen Xiang. After seven years Erlang Sheng was able to locate the couple by light of the magical lotus lantern. He captured Chen Xiang so that Sanshengmu would return the lantern, and when she did she was imprisoned under a mountain. Chen Xiang learns of how his mother was imprisoned and plans to get the lantern back to look for his mother. Chen Xiang encounters many trials during his journey and in the time became a young man. Jiang Wen
Jiang Wen (born 5 January 1963) is a Chinese actor, screenwriter, and director. As a director, he is sometimes grouped with the "Sixth Generation" that emerged in the 1990s. Jiang is also well known internationally as an actor, having starred with Gong Li in Zhang Yimou's debut film '' Red Sorghum'' (1986), and more recently as Baze Malbus in the Star Wars film '' Rogue One'' (2016). Liu Chenxiang () is a mythical hero and demigod in the Chinese folktale ''The Magic Lotus Lantern''. At the top of the Western Peak of Mount Hua, there is a historic giant stone which is a hundred feet high, called Axe-splitting Rock, that has been cut neatly into three parts.
