London Buses Route 94
London Buses route 94 is a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, England. Running between Acton Green and Piccadilly Circus, it is operated by London United. History Route 94 commenced operating on 22 September 1990 to replace the withdrawn section of route 88 between Acton Green and Oxford Circus, it then ran parallel to route 88 to Trafalgar Square (Sundays only). On 13 July 1991 it was diverted to East Acton ''DuCane Road'' and the service level increased following the truncation of route 12 west of Shepherd's Bush. At the same time it was extended at all times to Trafalgar Square. Route 94 gained a night service in the form of N94 in July 1999. It was the first night bus and was introduced by the General. On 24 January 2004, route 94 was converted to one man operation with the AEC Routemasters replaced by Alexander ALX400 bodied Dennis Trident 2s. Alexander ALX400
The Alexander ALX400 (later known as the TransBus ALX400 and the Alexander Dennis ALX400) was a 2-axle double-decker bus body built by Walter Alexander Coachbuilders (later by TransBus International/Alexander Dennis). It was one of the ALX-series bodywork, all of which (except the ALX100) featured the same designs on the front and rear panels that were originally designed for the new generation of mainly low-floor bus chassis produced since the late 1990s. Description Various seating configurations were available, with Transport for London (TfL) specification models fitted with a central exit door. There are typically 45 seats on the upper deck, and between 17 (on the DAF DB250) and 22 seats on the lower deck. Notting Hill Gate Tube Station
Notting Hill Gate is a London Underground station near Notting Hill, London, located on the street called Notting Hill Gate. On the Central line, it is between Holland Park to the west and Queensway to the east. On the District line and Circle line, it is between High Street Kensington and Bayswater stations. It is on the boundary of Travelcard Zone 1 and Zone 2. History The sub-surface Circle and District line platforms were opened on 1 October 1868 by the Metropolitan Railway (MR) as part of its extension from Paddington to Gloucester Road. Holland Park Tube Station
Holland Park is a London Underground station, on Holland Park Avenue. It is served by the Central line, lying between Shepherd's Bush and Notting Hill Gate stations, in Travelcard Zone 2. History The original building was typical of those designed by Harry Bell Measures for the stations of the Central London Railway that opened on 30 July 1900. It was given a flat roof in the hope that commercial development would take place on top, as at Queensway station, but so far this has not happened. The building was refurbished in the 1990s. On 28 July 1958 one passenger died as a result of a fire on a Central line train at Holland Park. There was an incident in August 2013 in which smoke started to fill the station after a train's brakes malfunctioned. Shepherd's Bush is a London Underground station in the district of Shepherd's Bush in the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham. The station is on the Central line, between and stations, and it lies in Travelcard Zone 2. The station originally opened in 1900, but was closed for eight months in 2008 while the surface station building was replaced with a completely new structure and the underground station refurbished. A number of stations in the area both past and present have borne the name ''Shepherd's Bush''; today the Central line station shares its name with the adjacent London Overground station, with which it shares a surface-level interchange. Goldhawk Road Tube Station
Goldhawk Road is a London Underground station located in the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham, on the south side of Goldhawk Road, about west of Shepherd's Bush Green. It is served by the Circle and Hammersmith & City lines in Travelcard Zone 2. Although the line here was opened on 13 June 1864, a station was not opened at this location until 1 April 1914 when Shepherd's Bush station (now Shepherd's Bush Market) was moved from its original location between Uxbridge Road and Goldhawk Road to a location on the north side of Uxbridge Road. Gillian Reynolds (née Morton; born 15 November 1935) is an English radio critic. After writing for ''The Guardian'' from 1967 to 1974, she was the radio critic for ''The Daily Telegraph'' for over 42 years, from 1975 to 2018. She then continued her career at ''The Sunday Times'', where she wrote about radio until 2021. Early life Morton's father was a seaman while her mother was a market trader. She was raised in a council house in Norris Green, Liverpool. She was educated at Broad Square County Primary School and Liverpool Institute High School for Girls, followed by St Anne's College, Oxford, where she read English. After leaving Oxford, she undertook postgraduate research at Mount Holyoke College in the United States for a year.
