Gwar, often stylized as GWAR, is an American heavy metal band formed in Richmond, Virginia in 1984, composed of and operated by a frequently rotating line-up of musicians, artists and filmmakers collectively known as Slave Pit Inc. After the death of frontman and lead singer Dave Brockie in 2014, the group has continued without any of its founding members. Identified by their distinctively grotesque costumes, Gwar's core thematic and visual concept revolves around an elaborate science fiction-themed mythology which portrays the band members as barbaric interplanetary warriors, a narrative which serves as the basis for all of the band's albums, live shows and media. ''America Must Be Destroyed'' is Gwar’s third album, released in 1992 as their second album on Metal Blade Records. The album’s lyrical content was inspired by controversy over obscenity charges against the band and an incident in Charlotte, North Carolina in which frontman Dave Brockie’s prosthetic penile attachment, ''"The Cuttlefish of Cthulhu"'', was confiscated by police officers. Overview The lyrical content in ''America Must Be Destroyed'' was greatly inspired by Dave Brockie's fight with police officers while touring in Charlotte, North Carolina, in 1990. ''Lust in Space'' is the eleventh studio album by Gwar. It was released on August 18, 2009. It is their first album since returning to their old label Metal Blade Records. The album also saw the return of their former bassist Casey Orr, even though he would later part ways with the band yet again. Lust in Space debuted at #96 on the Billboard top 200 Charts and according to Blabbermouth it was Gwar's highest position reached for the debut of an album. The cover is an homage/parody of the Kiss (band), Kiss album ''Love Gun''. Overview This time around, Gwar manages to steal a Scumdog ship and prepares to finally leave Earth; however, Cardinal Syn returns and plans an attack. ''Beyond Hell'' is the tenth studio album by Gwar. Released on August 29, 2006, by DRT Entertainment, the album was originally announced through the band's official website on February 23, 2006. Unlike the band's output since 2001, it is a concept album and a rock opera, centering on Gwar's journey to Hell as they escape from the attacking armies of humanity. DRT Entertainment was a New York City based independent record label founded in 2003 by Derek Shulman, Ron Urban, and Theodore "Ted" Green. The label is defunct. The label advertised itself as an "artist friendly hard rock music company for bands with a touring fan base." The company was distributed by Universal Music Group's Fontana Distribution. DRT was also distributed by Universal Music Canada and a variety of companies in the rest of the world including Soulfood in Germany, Shock Records in Australia and JVC Records in Japan. DRT had one subsidiary label, Brass Tacks Records. It was a vanity label founded by the Street Dogs. In 2005, it released Alucard Music's "35th Anniversary" editions of many CDs by Gentle Giant, Shulman's former band. (Thirty-five years after the debut album.) The label closed in 2009. ''War Party'' is the ninth studio album by the heavy metal band Gwar. It was released on October 26, 2004, being the band's first album in DRT Entertainment. ''Violence Has Arrived'' is the eighth studio album by the band Gwar. It was released on November 6, 2001, through Metal Blade Records. According to an interview with Dave Brockie, it was originally supposed to be released on September 11, 2001, but Metal Blade would not release it until November. According to Slave Pit Inc., it was not finished. According to other official sources, they did not even start recording the album until July, and the Dave Brockie Experience had a tour in September. Overview ''Violence Has Arrived'' re-attains the brutal focus of the band's earlier albums. It has more of a thrash metal sound than any of their previous albums. It is similar to ''Scumdogs of the Universe'', in that Dave Brockie was the dominant voice of the band again, and the theme is centered on generalized carnage. We Kill Everything
''We Kill Everything'' is the seventh album by Gwar, released on April 6, 1999 through Metal Blade Records. Story The album's story differs slightly from the version told in "It's Sleazy" and on tour. The first three tracks on the album do not follow one particular story, and focus on Gwar's generally decadent ways. The fourth, "A Short History of the End of the World (Part VII (The Final Chapter (abbr.)))", begins (though an instrumental, it is explained that it refers to Gwar fighting the Master - the incident that led to their exile) the story, which continues through the title track. This story chronicles Gwar's relationship with their Master, and the aftermath of their defiance. ''Carnival of Chaos'' is Gwar's sixth studio album, released on March 25, 1997 by Metal Blade Records. Overview The album is Gwar's longest album (exceeding 74 minutes), and contains Stampe's solo number: "Don't Need a Man".
