Stock Aitken Waterman (abbreviated as SAW) are an English songwriting and record production trio consisting of Mike Stock, Matt Aitken, and Pete Waterman. The trio had great success from the mid-1980s through the early 1990s. SAW is considered one of the most successful songwriting and producing partnerships of all time, scoring more than 100 UK top 40 hits, selling 40 million records and earning an estimated £60 million (about $104 million). SAW started producing underground club hits, but earned worldwide success with a mix of hi-NRG-influenced sound, romantic Motown lyrics and Italo disco melodies. During 1984–1989, their musical style was labelled Eurobeat. They also put swing shuffle elements into their songs. Written by the four members of the group and produced by Todd Rundgren, who also played marimba on the song, the song reached the top 10 of the charts in New Zealand, top 30 in Australia and the top 50 in the United Kingdom and United States. Lyrics Front man of the group Richard Butler had a specific audience in mind when he penned the lyrics to this song. "It's a Man's Man's Man's World" is a song written by James Brown and Betty Jean Newsome. Brown recorded it on February 16, 1966, in a New York City studio and released it as a single later that year. It reached No. 1 on the '' Billboard'' R&B chart and No. 8 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100. Its title is a word play on the 1963 comedy film ''It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World''. Song The song is written in the key of E-flat minor. The lyrics, which ''Rolling Stone'' characterized as "biblically chauvinistic", attribute all the works of modern civilization (the car, the train, the boat ("Like Noah made the ark"), and the electric light) to the efforts of men, but claim that it all would "mean nothing without a woman or a girl". Brilliant (band)
Brilliant were a British pop/rock group active in the 1980s. Although not commercially successful and mauled by the critics, they remain notable because of the personnel involved – Martin Glover a.k.a. Youth of Killing Joke and subsequently a top producer/remixer; Jimmy Cauty, later to find fame and fortune as one half of The KLF; and (prior to the band signing with WEA) Ben Watkins a.k.a. Juno Reactor. Equally notable was their management (David Balfe), their record company A&R manager (Bill Drummond, the other member of The KLF), and songwriting and production team ( Mike Stock, Matt Aitken and Pete Waterman known as Stock Aitken Waterman). ''Always'' is the third album by British singer Hazell Dean. Released in October 1988, it coincided with the singer's comeback and featured the hit singles "Who's Leaving Who" (UK #4), "Maybe (We Should Call it a Day)" (UK #15) and "Turn It into Love" (UK #21). Also included were remixes of earlier singles; "They Say It's Gonna Rain" (UK #58, 1985), "No Fool (For Love)" (UK #41, 1985; original version included on ''Heart First''), and "Always Doesn't Mean Forever" (UK #92). The album itself reached #38 - her highest placing in the album charts. The album was also released in the US in 1988 with an alternative cover. "They Say It's Gonna Rain" is a song co-written (with George Sanders) and sung by British female artist Kerry Delius. She released the song as a single in 1984 and while it failed to chart, it became an underground club hit. The song achieved a bigger popularity when it was covered by Hazell Dean the following year. Haywoode (Sidney Haywoode, London) is an English female singer. She is best known for the 1986 UK top 20 hit single, "Roses". She later also recorded under the name Sid Haywoode. Career Haywoode trained from an early age at London's Corona Stage Academy. Her career started with modelling, dancing and acting roles in British television shows like ''The Gentle Touch'' and was a regular as a Hill's Angel on ''The Benny Hill Show''. She featured in movies including ''Ragtime'' and ''Superman''. Desiree Heslop, best known as Princess, is a British singer who found chart success in the mid-1980s. In the early 1980s, she worked with the group Osibisa. She is best known for her hit single " Say I'm Your Number One" which made the UK Top Ten in 1985. Career Before going solo, she was a backing vocalist for the band Osibisa in the early 1980s. She recorded sessions on the Brilliant album ''Kiss The Lips of Life'', which brought her to the attention of producers Stock, Aitken and Waterman (SAW). Her debut solo album ''Princess'' (1986) was composed and produced by SAW which contained the hit single, " Say I'm Your Number One". The Danse Society
The Danse Society are an English gothic rock band, formed in Barnsley in 1980. They were originally active until 1987, reforming in 2011. They achieved moderate success during their career. Their lineup included Steve Rawlings (vocals), Paul Nash (guitar), Lyndon Scarfe (keyboards), Tim Wright (bass guitar) and Paul Gilmartin (drums).
