North Carolina Counties
__NOTOC__ The U.S. state of North Carolina is divided into 100 counties. North Carolina ranks 28th in size by area, but has the seventh-highest number of counties in the country. Following the restoration of the monarchy in 1660, King Charles II rewarded eight persons on March 24, 1663, for their faithful support of his efforts to regain the throne of England. He gave the eight grantees, called Lords Proprietor, the land called Carolina, in honor of King Charles I, his father. The Province of Carolina, from 1663 to 1729, was a North American English (1663–1707), then British (from 1707 union with Scotland) colony. In 1729, the Province of North Carolina became a separate entity from the Province of South Carolina. The establishment of North Carolina counties stretches over 240 years, beginning in 1668 with the creation of Albemarle County and ending with the 1911 creation of Avery and Hoke counties. Clay County School District (North Carolina)
Clay County Schools (CCS) is the school district in North Carolina, that manages the county's public school system. It is the only school system in Clay County, with about 1,200 students attending a total of 4 separate schools, located on a central campus in Hayesville, North Carolina. The system covers all of Clay County. After county government, Clay County Schools is the largest employer in the county with a staff of 205 people. The district is run by the Clay County School's superintendent. The current superintendent is former Hayesville Elementary principal Melissa Godfrey. Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools
Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools (CHCCS) is a school district which educates over 12,000 students (pre-K through 12th grade) in the southeastern part of Orange County, North Carolina. Being near three major universities as well as the Research Triangle Park, it serves one of the best educated populations in the United States. It is the school district for most of Chapel Hill (except the small portion of Chapel Hill that is in Durham County) and all of Carrboro, including schools from elementary through high school. Camden County Schools (North Carolina)
Camden County Schools is a PK– 12 graded school district serving Camden County, North Carolina. Its five schools serve 1,958 students as of the 2010–2011 school year. History The Camden County Schools system was really a small system with only three schools (one each of elementary, middle, and high schools) as late as 2006. By 2008, however, the system had added a new high school and an intermediate elementary school. History While some subscription and church schools existed in the area before Caldwell County was founded, the history of public education really begins in July, 1841, just a few months after the county was established.
