This is a list of school districts in California. California school districts are of several varieties, usually a Unified district, which includes all of the Elementary and High Schools in the same geographic area; Elementary school districts, which includes K–6 or K–8 schools only, which may have several elementary districts within one high school district's geographic area; and High School Districts, which include one or more high schools in the same geographic area. Elementary districts sometimes includes the word Elementary within their names, but often do not. Sometimes the words Joint and/or Union are included in the district's name. A joint school district serves students from more than one county. A union elementary school district was formed as the result of a merger between two previous school districts, while a union high school district serves students from multiple elementary school districts. Alameda Unified School District
The Alameda Unified School District serves Alameda, California, United States. The school district is a "unified" district (as of 1936), meaning that it includes K-8 schools and high schools in the same jurisdiction. As with all California school districts, it is not a part of the city government. The school board is elected separately from the Alameda city council, and has been since April 1969. The city council has no direct power over the school board. The AUSD educates approximately 9,300 students each year, in ten elementary schools, two middle schools, and four high schools. The district also operates an Adult School and a Child Development Center. Three elementary schools were closed and consolidated at the end of the 2005–2006 school year; Miller Elementary, Woodstock Elementary and Longfellow Elementary students went to Ruby Bridges Elementary. Alpine County Unified School District
Alpine County Unified School district is the public school district serving Alpine County, the least populated county in California, in the Sierra Nevada. It has a total enrollment of under 100 pupils. It operates Diamond Valley Elementary in Markleeville, which is the largest school, having 66 students in the 2019–2020 academic year; as well as Bear Valley Elementary in Bear Valley, which had four students in the same year; Alpine County Opportunity School in Woodfords, which had no students traditionally enrolled, but operates an online learning program; and Alpine County Community Day School, also in Woodfords, which serves expelled students, students on probation, and other students with special circumstances. Acalanes Union High School District
Acalanes Union High School District is a public high school district in Contra Costa County, located in the Bay Area of California. The district takes its name from Rancho Acalanes, an 1834 Mexican rancho grant which occupied much of the area from Orinda to Lafayette. The district operates four high schools. Schools It currently has four schools: Acalanes High School in Lafayette, Campolindo High School in Moraga, Las Lomas High School and The Acalanes Center for Independent Study in Walnut Creek, and Miramonte High School in Orinda. A fifth campus, Del Valle High School located in Walnut Creek was closed at the end of the 1978–1979 school year and remaining students were transferred to Acalanes, Campolindo, and Las Lomas High Schools.
