This article lists political parties in the Republic of Artsakh. The Republic of Artsakh has a multi-party system with numerous political parties, in which no one party often has a chance of gaining power alone, and parties must work with each other to form coalition governments. Republic Of Artsakh
Artsakh, officially the Republic of Artsakh () or the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (),, is a breakaway state in the South Caucasus whose territory is internationally recognised as part of Azerbaijan. Artsakh controls a part of the former Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Oblast, including the capital of Stepanakert. It is an enclave within Azerbaijan. Its only overland access route to Armenia is via the wide Lachin corridor which is under the control of Russian peacekeepers. The predominantly Armenian-populated region of Nagorno-Karabakh was claimed by both the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic and the First Republic of Armenia when both countries became independent in 1918 after the fall of the Russian Empire, and a brief war over the region broke out in 1920. The dispute was largely shelved after the Soviet Union established control over the area, and created the Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Oblast (NKAO) within the Azerbaijan SSR in 1923. Artsakh Conservative Party
The Artsakh Conservative Party () is an Armenian political party in Artsakh. History The Artsakh Conservative Party was established on 26 February 2019. Its founder and current party leader is David Babayan. On 5 February 2020, it was announced that Babayan would run for the presidency of Artsakh and that he would lead the party in the 2020 Artsakhian general election. Ideology The party maintains a centre-right political position and advocates for Artsakh’s sovereignty, maintaining a high level of security and strengthening democracy, social justice and environmental protection. Electoral record Following the 2020 election, the party gained just 2.87% of the votes after the first round of voting, failing to qualify for the second round. Social Justice Party (Nagorno Karabakh)
The Social Justice Party ( hy, Սոցիալական արդարություն կուսակցություն) is a political party in Artsakh, founded in 2005. History The chairperson of the Social Justice Party is Karen Ohanjanyan, coordinator of the human rights organization, Helsinki Initiative '92, which is part of the Helsinki Citizens Assembly network. The Social Justice Party failed to receive any seats following the 2005 Nagorno-Karabakh parliamentary election and obtained just 0.04% of the popular vote. The party did not participate in the 2015 Nagorno-Karabakh parliamentary election and currently has no representation in the National Assembly. Powerful United Homeland Party
The Powerful United Homeland Party ( hy, Հզոր Միացյալ հայրենիքի կուսակցություն), also known as the Strong United Homeland Party is an Armenian political party in Artsakh. History The Powerful United Homeland Party's founder and current party leader is Vyacheslav Hyusnunts, a former military general and former member of the Communist Party of Artsakh. The party currently has no parliamentary representation within the National Assembly and acts as an extra-parliamentary force. Prior to the 2020 Artsakhian general election, the party endorsed Masis Mayilyan and his New Artsakh Alliance. Ideology The party considers the safety and security of the Artsakh Republic a top priority. Peace And Development Party (Artsakh)
The Peace and Development Party ( hy, Խաղաղություն և զարգացում կուսակցություն) is an Armenian political party in Artsakh. History The Peace and Development Party was established on 25 October 2014. Its founder and current party leader is Garik Grigoryan. The party currently has no parliamentary representation within the National Assembly and acts as an extra-parliamentary force. On 26 November 2016, a political party by the same name also registered itself in Armenia, by political analyst Andrias Ghukasyan. Ghukasyan hoped that both parties would cooperate together. During an interview, Ghukasyan stated, "I think that in the future a joint alliance of the Armenian and Artsakh parties will be formed, which will give an opportunity to have a new political force, which operates jointly in both Artsakh and Armenia." New Artsakh Alliance
The New Artsakh Alliance ( hy, Նոր Արցախ դաշինք) is an Armenian political alliance in Artsakh. History The New Artsakh Alliance was established on 29 January, 2020 during a conference in Stepanakert. The political alliance consists of several liberal parties; supporting the independent presidential candidacy of Artsakh foreign minister Masis Mayilyan. The alliance consists of the Artsakh of Tomorrow Party, the Identity and Unity Party, and the Ramkavar Liberal Party of Artsakh. The administrative bodies of the three political parties reaffirmed the stances of their respective parties and had pledged their support to Masis Mayilyan in the 2020 Artsakhian general election. In return, Mayilyan expressed his deep gratitude to the three political parties for their support and stressed that if elected, he would implement radical reform programs to benefit Artsakh. National Revival (Artsakh)
National Revival () is a social democratic opposition political party in the Republic of Artsakh. It was founded on 16 May 2013. Hayk Khanumyan is the party's founder and leader. Ideology The party describes itself as an Armenian nationalist and social democratic party. The party's goals are the separation of the government and business, establishing an eco-friendly economy and promoting rural development. The ultimate goal is creating a United Armenia, by unifying Armenia and Artsakh. Movement 88
Movement 88 () is a political party in Artsakh. History The party was part of an electoral alliance with the Armenian Revolutionary Federation, that won 3 out of 33 seats in the National Assembly following the 2005 Nagorno-Karabakh parliamentary election. The party did not participate in the 2010 Nagorno-Karabakh parliamentary election. The party decided to participate in the 2015 Nagorno-Karabakh parliamentary election receiving 6.93% of the popular vote and won two seats in the National Assembly. While the party decided not to participate in the 2020 Artsakhian general election, the party endorsed the Free Motherland - UCA Alliance. The party currently holds no political representation and acts as an extra-parliamentary force. The Identity and Unity Party ( hy, Ինքնություն և միասնություն կուսակցություն) is an Armenian political party in Artsakh. History The Identity and Unity Party was established on 6 April 2019. Its founder and current party leader is Erik Mkrdumyan. The party currently has no parliamentary representation within the National Assembly and acts as an extra-parliamentary force. Electoral record Prior to the 2020 Artsakhian general election, the party announced its intentions to join the New Artsakh Alliance. The alliance pledged to support Masis Mayilyan for the presidential nomination. Following the election, the alliance gained just 4.60% of the votes after the first round of voting. The Generation of Independence Party ( hy, Անկախության Սերունդ կուսակցություն) is an Armenian political party in Artsakh. History The Generation of Independence Party was established on 11 August 2018. Its founder and current party leader is Ruslan Israelyan. In August 2019, it was announced that Israelyan would run for the presidency of Artsakh during a party congress and that he would lead the party in the 2020 Artsakhian general election. Ideology The party advocates for the unification of Artsakh and Armenia, and the establishment of a United Armenia. Domestically, the party advocates for further economic development of Artsakh, respecting human and civil rights, improving education and fighting corruption. Communist Party Of Artsakh
The Communist Party of Artsakh () is a communist political party in the Republic of Artsakh. History The party failed to receive any seats in the National Assembly following the June 2005 elections, the May 2010 elections, and the May 2015 elections. For the 2005 election, the party fielded 10 candidates for the Proportional Representation seats and candidates in 4 single-member constituencies. For the 2010 election, the party presented a list for the Proportional Representation seats as well as one candidate in one of the 16 single-member seats. As of 2014, Hrant Melkumyan served as the chairman of the party. Melkumyam contested the 2007 Nagorno-Karabakh presidential election. He obtained 554 votes (0.8%).
