Latin Pop Airplay is a record chart, chart published by ''Billboard (magazine), Billboard'' magazine that ranks the top-performing songs (regardless of genre or language) on Latin pop radio stations in the United States, based on weekly Rotation (music), airplay data compiled by Nielsen Holdings, Nielsen's Broadcast Data Systems. It is a subchart of Hot Latin Songs, which lists the best-performing Spanish-language songs in the country. In 1997, 17 songs topped the chart, in 52 issues of the magazine. The first number one of the year was "Lloviendo Flores" by Ednita Nazario, which moved into the top spot in the issue dated January 4. It remained in place for only a single week before being replaced by "Le cose che vivi (song), Las Cosas Que Vives" by Laura Pausini which had previously topped the chart in the week ending December 28, 1996, and spent four further weeks at number one in 1997 for a total of five. "Miente" (English: "Lie") is a song by Spanish singer Enrique Iglesias from his second studio album, '' Vivir'' (1997). The song was written and produced by Rafael Pérez-Botija. It was released as the third single from the album in 1997. An uptempo pop power ballad backed by a piano and percussion, the song deals with the singer being in denial about a relationship ending. "Miente" was covered by Robert Avellanet on his debut studio album, ''Sentir'' (1999), as a salsa track. The music video for the cover features the singer playing billiards while a woman is driving away. Bolero is a genre of song which originated in eastern Cuba in the late 19th century as part of the trova tradition. Unrelated to the older Spanish dance of the same name, bolero is characterized by sophisticated lyrics dealing with love. It has been called the "quintessential Latin American romantic song of the twentieth century". Unlike the simpler, thematically diverse ''canción'', bolero did not stem directly from the European lyrical tradition, which included Italian opera and canzone, popular in urban centers like Havana at the time. Instead, it was born as a form of romantic folk poetry cultivated by a new breed of troubadour from Santiago de Cuba, the ''trovadores''. History Cantoral composed the song in 1956, in Washington D.C., in front of the Potomac River, at the end of a Los Tres Caballeros tour of the United States. During the tour he had had an affair with one of the girls participating in the show, who was to return to New York the next morning.
