Hydrobiologia
''Hydrobiologia'', ''The International Journal of Aquatic Sciences'', is a peer-reviewed scientific journal publishing 21 issues per year, for a total of well over 4000 pages per year. ''Hydrobiologia'' publishes original research, reviews and opinions investigating the biology of freshwater and marine habitats, including the impact of human activities. Coverage includes molecular-, organism-, community -and ecosystem-level studies dealing with biological research in limnology and oceanography, including systematics and aquatic ecology. In addition to hypothesis-driven experimental research, it presents theoretical papers relevant to a broad hydrobiological audience, and collections of papers in special issues covering focused topics. History ''Hydrobiologia'' changed on the appointment of Henri Dumont to be its editor-in-chief. He introduced peer review, and expanded production from 6 issues per year to more than 20 per year. Koen Martens took over the responsibility as editor-i ...

Thiaridae
Thiaridae, common name thiarids or trumpet snails, is a family of tropical freshwater snails with an operculum, aquatic gastropod mollusks in the superfamily Cerithioidea. MolluscaBase eds. (2021). MolluscaBase. Thiaridae Gill, 1871 (1823). Accessed through: World Register of Marine Species at: http://www.marinespecies.org/aphia.php?p=taxdetails&id=196287 on 2021-07-28 Taxonomy Many species of freshwater snails that are characterized by a turreted shell were originally placed within the genus ''Melania'' Lamarck, 1799. This genus as delimited by authors of the late 19th and early 20th century contained hundreds of species, and was successively split into different groupings. Over time, infrageneric groups (subgenera) were elevated to the rank of independent genera and the genus ''Melania'' was elevated to the rank of a family, Melanidae. However, the genus name ''Melania'' Lamarck, 1799 was demonstrated to be a junior synonym of the genus name ''Thiara'' Röding, 1798. Consequ ...

Bellamya Chinensis
The Chinese mystery snail, black snail, or trapdoor snail (''Cipangopaludina chinensis''), is a large freshwater snail with gills and an operculum, an aquatic gastropod mollusk in the family Viviparidae. The name "trapdoor snail" refers the operculum, an oval corneous plate that most snails in this clade possess. When the soft parts of the snail are fully retracted, the operculum seals the aperture of the shell, providing some protection against drying out and predation. Taxonomy Taxonomy of the introduced populations of Oriental mystery snails is confusing and there are many scientific names in use. There has also been debate regarding whether or not ''Cipangopaludina chinensis malleata'' and '' Cipangopaludina japonica'' in North America are synonymous and simply different phenotypes of the same species. For example USGS database considers the two as separate species. Smith (2000) argues that ''Cipangopaludina'' is a subgenus of ''Bellamya''; however, because most North ...

Viviparidae
Viviparidae, sometimes known as the river snails or mystery snails, are a family of large operculate freshwater snails, aquatic gastropod mollusks. This family is classified in the informal group Architaenioglossa according to the taxonomy of the Gastropoda by Bouchet & Rocroi, 2005. Distribution This family occurs nearly worldwide in temperate and tropical regions, with the exception that they are absent from South America. There are two genera of Viviparidae in Africa: ''Bellamya'' and '' Neothauma''. The oldest known vivparid is ''Viviparus langtonensis'' from the Middle Jurassic of England. The oldest records from the Southern Hemisphere is from the Late Jurassic Talbragar fossil beds of Australia. Taxonomy The family Viviparidae contains 3 subfamilies (according to the taxonomy of the Gastropoda by Bouchet & Rocroi, 2005): * Viviparinae Gray, 1847 (1833) - synonyms: Paludinidae Fitzinger, 1833 (inv.); Kosoviinae Atanackovic, 1859 (n.a.) * Bellamyinae Rohrbach, ...
