Roseland Theater
The Roseland Theater, sometimes called the Roseland Theater and Grill, is a music venue located at 8 Northwest Sixth Avenue in the Old Town Chinatown neighborhood of Portland, Oregon, in the United States. The building was originally a church, constructed by the Apostolic Faith Church in 1922. In 1982, Larry Hurwitz converted the building to a music venue called Starry Night. In 1990, the club's 21-year-old publicity agent was murdered in one of the theater's hallways; Hurwitz was convicted for this murder ten years later. Hurwitz sold the club in 1991, claiming he had lost support from the local music industry. The venue was given its current name during the 1991 ownership transfer. During the 1990s, Double Tee acquired control of the hall's operations, then purchased and renovated the building. Jimmy Mak's
Jimmy Mak's was a jazz club in Portland, Oregon's Pearl District, in the United States. It was established in 1996 and closed on December 31, 2016. History Jimmy Mak's opened in 1996. Owners included Jimmy Makarounis, aka Jimmy Mak, his wife and his parents. The jazz club hosted many groups, including some led by Mel Brown and Dan Balmer. In February 2016, the building which housed Jimmy Mak's was sold for development. The club's final performance was held Dec. 31, 2016. Makarounis died two days later, at age 53. He made plans to relocate the club to the intersection of Northwest 10th and Everett, in 2017. The Dude Ranch
The Dude Ranch was a jazz venue in Portland, Oregon that operated during World War II in the 1940s. It joined other jazz clubs along and nearby North Williams Avenue, a Black neighborhood. The venue was the self-proclaimed, "Pleasure Spot of the West." The Dude Ranch jazz supper club opened in 1945 and was open for just one year. In that time it brought world-class jazz musicianship to the city. It was known as one of Portland's Black and Tan jazz clubs in 1945. The club was owned by Pat Patterson, the first African American basketball player at the University of Oregon, and Sherman "Cowboy" Pickett. The club's name was reflected in its decor, which included murals of black cowboys and waitresses in cowgirl outfits with holsters and cardboard pistols. Candlelight Cafe & Bar
The Candlelight Cafe & Bar, also known as the Candlelight Room, was a blues bar and restaurant located at Southwest 5th and Lincoln in downtown Portland, Oregon, United States. Description and history The business operated for 28 years, from 1984 to 2012, and was known for live blues and R&B performances each day of the week. Candlelight was owned by Joe Shore and later operated by his daughter, Janelle Shore. MAX Orange Line construction caused the venue to be demolished in 2012. The Shores had hoped to relocate the business, which included a record label, to northwest Portland. The 2018 Waterfront Blues Festival honored the Candlelight, and featured performances by many of its regular musicians. Brasserie Montmartre
Brasserie Montmartre was a French, and later Mediterranean, restaurant and jazz club in Portland, Oregon, in the United States. Description and history Brasserie Montmartre was a restaurant and jazz club that operated three different times in Portland, Oregon. The original restaurant, which featured French cuisine, opened in 1978 and was described by ''The Oregonian'' as having "customer-drawn crayon art on the walls, black-and-white checkered floors, nightly jazz and a solid food menu". It closed in 2006. New owners Matt and Sara Maletis, who were longtime Portland residents, re-opened the French restaurant in 2009. The couple signed a twenty-year lease and spent nearly $1 million renovating its interior. However, Brasserie was closed a year and a half later, in 2011. Berbati's Pan (originally Berbati's Restaurant or simply Berbati's) was a Greek restaurant, bar and music nightclub in Portland, Oregon, United States. It was located at 231 Southwest Ankeny Street and operated from 1985 to 2010. Description and history Originally, the business operated as a restaurant called Berbati's, but when the adjacent 24 Hour Church of Elvis moved to a new space in 1994, the owner Ted Papaioannou expanded the restaurant into the former location of the Church of Elvis to include a music venue and renamed the business Berbati's Pan. Analog Café and Theater, or simply The Analog, was a cafe and music venue in Portland, Oregon's Hosford-Abernethy neighborhood, in the United States. The venue also hosts DRD Records. History In May 2018, the venue's owner was accused of sexual harassment, causing some musicians to cancel performances. Donnie Rife denied the anonymous accusations, and decided to leave. World Famous Kenton Club
The World Famous Kenton Club, or simply Kenton Club, is a bar and music venue in north Portland, Oregon, United States. The venue was established as the Kenton Club in 1947, and became a biker bar. Wonder Ballroom
The Wonder Ballroom is a music venue located in northeast Portland, Oregon. Prior to opening in 2004, the building (originally constructed in 1914) was occupied by the Ancient Order of Hibernians, the Catholic Youth Organization, the Portland Boxing School, the American Legion organization, and a community center eventually known as the Collins Center. In 2005, the building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places as the Hibernian Hall for its "historic and architectural significance".
