Bangkok, officially known in Thai language, Thai as Krung Thep Maha Nakhon and colloquially as Krung Thep, is the capital and most populous city of Thailand. Bangkok Folk Museum
Bangkok Folk Museum, or Bangkokian Museum ( th, พิพิธภัณฑ์ชาวบางกอก, ), is a museum in Bangkok, Thailand. It is at house number 273 on Soi Charoen Krung 43, near the Sri Rat Expressway, several hundred metres from the left bank of the Chao Phraya River. Set in a building dating back to the World War II period, the museum offers an insight into the lifestyles of well-off Bangkokians during World War II and its aftermath (1937–1957). On 1 October 2004, the museum was bequeathed to the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration by Waraporn Surawadee who had inherited it from her mother. The museum consists of two main two-storey buildings and a garden. In an upstairs room of the first, are the family quarters. Here are displays of many of the possessions of original family members. Chulalongkorn University (CU, th, จุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย, ), nicknamed Chula ( th, จุฬาฯ), is a public and autonomous research university in Bangkok, Thailand. The university was originally founded during King Chulalongkorn's reign as a school for training royal pages and civil servants in 1899 (B.E. 2442) at the Grand Palace of Thailand. It was later established as a national university in 1917, making it the oldest institute of higher education in Thailand. During the reign of Chulalongkorn's son, King Vajiravudh, the Royal Pages School became the Civil Service College of King Chulalongkorn. Bank of Thailand Museum is a museum in Bangkok. The museum is housed in the Bang Khun Phrom Palace, the former residence of Prince Paribatra Sukhumbandhu, who was the 33rd son of King Chulalongkorn. The Bank of Thailand, Northern Region also has a museum in Chiang Mai. In June 2017, the museum was reopened. Displays The museum has 14 rooms many of which display the history of Thai currency and the Bank of Thailand. The age range of the coins differs greatly and there are many ancient Thai coins found at excavation sites such as Funan coins (1st – 7th centuries), Sri Vijaya coins (8th – 13th centuries), Sukhothai period, (13th – 14th centuries), to the 14th – 19th centuries, from the Lanna Kingdom in the northern Thailand. Khlong Toei (also Klong Toey, th, คลองเตย, ) is a district in central Bangkok, long known for its slum. It is bordered by the Chao Phraya River and contains major port facilities. It is also the site of a major market, the Khlong Toei Market. The Bangkok Planetarium (, ') is the oldest planetarium in Thailand and Southeast Asia. It is located on Sukhumvit Road in Bangkok as part of the Science Centre for Education, which is operated by the Department of Non-Formal Education of the Ministry of Education.The complex was built to educate the youth and general public about science and astronomy. Bangkok Noi ( th, บางกอกน้อย, ) is one of the 50 districts (''khet'') of Bangkok, Thailand. Neighboring districts are (from north clockwise) Bang Phlat, Phra Nakhon (across Chao Phraya River), Bangkok Yai, Phasi Charoen, and Taling Chan. History Bangkok Noi was established as an amphoe on 15 October 1915. Originally named Amphoe Ammarin, it was renamed on 11 July 1916 to Amphoe Bangkok Noi to match with the historical name of the area. It became a khet in 1972 when Thon Buri and Bangkok were merged.
