Golda Meir
Golda Meir (; 3 May 1898 – 8 December 1978) was the prime minister of Israel, serving from 1969 to 1974. She was Israel's first and only female head of government. Born into a Jewish family in Kyiv, Kiev, Russian Empire (present-day Ukraine), Meir immigrated with her family to the United States in 1906. She graduated from the Wisconsin State College of Milwaukee, Milwaukee State Normal School and found work as a teacher. While in Milwaukee, she embraced the Labor Zionist movement. In 1921, Meir and her husband Third Aliyah, immigrated to Mandatory Palestine, settling in Merhavia (kibbutz), Merhavia, later becoming the kibbutz's representative to the Histadrut. Ehud Avriel
Ehud Avriel (; 19 October 1917 – 27 August 1980) was an Israeli diplomat and politician who served as a member of the Knesset for Mapai between 1955 and 1957. Biography Born Georg Überall in Vienna in Austria-Hungary, Avriel was educated at the Humanistic Secondary School. He was a member of the Blue-White movement, and between 1938 and 1940 worked for the Youth Aliyah office in occupied Vienna. He immigrated to Mandatory Palestine in 1940 and settled in kibbutz Neot Mordechai. He joined the Haganah, and was involved in the Rescue Committee assisting Jews flee Europe. He spent some years in Turkey as well for that purpose. After the war ended he helped illegal Jewish immigration to Palestine. In 1946 he was sent to Czechoslovakia to purchase arms for the Jewish community. On 28 July 1948 he became envoy to Czechoslovakia and Hungary. Dov Yosef
Dov Joseph (; 27 May 1899 – 7 January 1980) was an Israeli statesman. During the 1948 Arab–Israeli War, he was in charge of Jerusalem. He later held ministerial positions in nine Israeli governments. Biography Bernard Joseph (later Dov Joseph) was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He attended McGill University, Université Laval, and the University of London, qualifying as an attorney. Joseph founded the Canadian Young Judaea Zionist youth movement in 1917, and immigrated to Palestine in 1918 with the Canadian Jewish Legion which he helped organize. After the end of World War I, Yosef worked as an attorney in Mandatory Palestine. David Livschitz
David Livschitz (; 12 May 1897 – 30 October 1973) was a Russia-born Israeli politician who served as a member of the Knesset for Mapam, the Faction independent of Ahdut HaAvoda and Mapai between 1951 and 1959. Biography Born in the Russian Empire, Livschitz was a member of the Dror and HeHalutz youth movements in Poland. In 1925, he joined the World Union of Poale Zion and Socialist Zionists. Between 1927 and 1937 he was a leader of Poale Zion in France, and was also editor of the party's publications. In 1938 he emigrated to Mandatory Palestine, where he became secretary of Mapai in Tel Aviv. In 1944, he joined the party's B Faction, and in 1948 joined Mapam, having been a member of the Assembly of Representatives. Bechor-Shalom Sheetrit (; 20 January 1895 – 28 January 1967) was an Israeli politician, minister and the only signatory of the Israeli declaration of independence to have been born in the country. He served as Minister of Police from independence in 1948 until shortly before his death in 1967, making him the longest-serving cabinet member in the same portfolio to date. Beba Idelson (; 14 October 1895 – 5 December 1975) was a Zionist activist and Israeli politician. Biography Beba Idelson (née Trakhtenbereg) was born in Ekaterinoslav in the Russian Empire (now Dnipro, Ukraine) in 1895. When she was eight, her mother died giving birth to her thirteenth child and at the age of fourteen she lost her father, Yitzhak. Along with her grandmother and brother, she helped to support the family. In 1912, she graduated from high school, and went on to study Economics and Social Sciences at the Kharkiv University. In 1913, shaken by the Beilis trial, she became interested in Zionism and in 1915 she joined the “Youth of Zion” (later to be merged into Hashomer Hatzair).
