Meir Cohen-Avidov
Meir Cohen-Avidov (; 18 February 1926 – 4 March 2015) was an Israeli politician who served as a member of the Knesset for Likud between 1974 and 1988. Biography Born in Haifa during the Mandate era, Cohen-Avidov studied at the School for Jurisprudence and Economics in Tel Aviv and was certified as a lawyer. He joined the Irgun in 1943 and began working for Haifa City Council in 1945. Between 1946 and 1948 he was imprisoned by the British Authorities. In 1961 he became the city council's comptroller, a role he held until 1966. Between 1969 and 1973 he was an elected member of the council. A member of Herut's central committee and directorate, in 1973 he was elected to the Knesset on the Likud list, an alliance of Herut, the Liberal Party and several other small right-wing parties. David Levy (; 21 December 1937 – 2 June 2024) was an Israeli politician who served as a member of the Knesset between 1969 and 2006. Levy's ascent to political prominence demonstrated the growing influence of Mizrahi Jews in Israel. Biography Born in Kyzylorda in the Soviet Union (today in Kazakhstan), Kulas emigrated to Israel in 1948. Haim Kaufman
Haim Kaufman (; 12 December 1934 – 7 August 1995) was an Israeli politician who served as a member of the Knesset for Likud between 1977 and 1988, and again from 1990 until his death in 1995. Biography Born in Tel Aviv during the Mandate era, Leket served in the Artillery Corps during his national service in the IDF. He studied law at the School of Law and Economics in Tel Aviv, and later worked as a corporate director. A member of Herut, Kaufman chaired the party's youth group and the Dor Hemsheh group within it. He was on the Likud list (an alliance of Herut and several other right-wing parties) for the 1973 elections, but failed to win a seat. Moshe Katsav
Moshe Katsav (; born Musa Qassab; 5 December 1945) is an Israeli former politician and was the president of Israel from 2000 to 2007. He was also a leading Likud member of the Israeli Knesset and a minister in its Cabinet of Israel, cabinet. He was the first Mizrahi Jew to be elected to the presidency, and second non-Ashkenazi president after Yitzhak Navon. He is also the only ex-Israeli president to have been convicted of a crime. The end of his presidency was marked by controversy, stemming from allegations of rape of one female subordinate and sexual harassment of others. Pesah Grupper (; 21 August 1924 – 29 April 2013) was an Israeli politician who served as Minister of Agriculture between October 1983 and September 1984. Biography Grupper was born in Tel Aviv during the Mandate era. He served as head of Atlit local council between 1959 and 1962 and again from 1969 until 1971. He was elected to the Knesset on Likud's list in 1973, and retained his seat in elections in 1977. In March 1978 he proposed that a psychiatrist visit the Knesset once a week to help MKs deal with overworking and stress. The proposal was met with ridicule from other MKs. He retained his seat again in the 1981 Knesset elections. Following the elections, he was appointed Deputy Minister of Agriculture, a role he held until 1983, when he became Minister of Agriculture in Yitzhak Shamir's government. Miriam Glazer-Ta'asa (; born 11 August 1929) is an Israeli former politician who served as a member of the Knesset for Likud between 1981 and 1988, and as Deputy Minister of Education and Culture from 1981 until 1984. Biography Miriam Ta'asa was born in Yemen in 1929 to a Mizrahi Jewish family. In 1934, the family emigrated to Mandatory Palestine and she grew up in the Neve Tzedek neighbourhood of Tel Aviv, where she attended the Talpiot Gymnasium. She joined the Irgun in 1945, later becoming an officer, and served in the IDF after Israeli independence. She went on to study at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, where she earned a bachelor's degree, and the Jewish Theological Seminary of America, where she earned a master's. Simha Erlich (; 15 December 1915 – 19 June 1983) was an Israeli politician. Erlich was leader of the Liberal Party and served in the Knesset from 1969 to 1983. Erlich notably served as Minister of Finance under Prime Minister Menachem Begin, where he was known for his efforts to liberalize the Israeli economy, and also served as Deputy Prime Minister of Israel. Michael Dekel
Michael Dekel (; 1 August 1920 – 20 September 1994) was an Israeli politician who served as a member of the Knesset for Likud between 1977 and 1988. Biography Dekel was born in Pińsk, Poland (now in Belarus) in 1920. During World War II he served in the Red Army between 1943 and 1944, and then the Polish Army from 1944 until 1946. After the war, he became commander of a Betar group in a Displaced Persons camp in Austria, and was also amongst the leaders of the Austrian Irgun branch. In 1949 he emigrated to Israel. The following year he joined moshav Nordia, which had been founded by former Irgun members. He also became a member of the Herut party, and in 1966 became a member of its directorate and central committee.
