A list of horror films released in the 1930s. History The American horror film was properly created in the 1930s, most notably the Universal Horror film productions. '' White Zombie'' is considered the first feature-length zombie film and has been described as the archetype and model of all zombie movies. A number of Hollywood actors made a name for themselves in horror films of this decade, in particular Bela Lugosi ('' Dracula'', 1931) and Boris Karloff (''Frankenstein'', 1931). Barry Norton
Barry Norton (born Alfredo Carlos Birabén; June 16, 1905 – August 24, 1956) was an Argentine-American actor. He appeared in over 90 films, starting in silent films from 1925 until his death in 1956. He is perhaps best known for his role as Juan Harker in Universal Pictures' Spanish-language version of '' Drácula'' in 1931, the English language role of Jonathan Harker originated by David Manners. Early life Norton was born to an affluent family in Buenos Aires on June 16, 1905. His birth name was Alfredo Carlos Birabén. In 1923, he emigrated to the United States as a second cabin class passenger under the name of Carlos Manuel A. Guadalupe Natalia Tovar (27 July 1910 – 12 November 2016), known professionally as Lupita Tovar, was a Mexican-born American actress best known for her starring role in the 1931 Spanish-language version of '' Drácula'', filmed in Los Angeles by Universal Pictures at night using the same sets as the Bela Lugosi version, but with a different cast and director. George H. Melford (born George Henry Knauff, February 19, 1877 – April 25, 1961) was an American stage and film actor and director. Dracula (1931 Spanish-language Film)
''Dracula'' is a 1931 American horror film directed by George Melford. The film is based on both the novel '' Dracula'' by Bram Stoker and the play '' Dracula'' by Hamilton Deane and John L. Balderston. The film is about Renfield (Pablo Alvarez Rubio), who travels to Translyvania to visit Count Dracula (Carlos Villarías). He is drugged by the Count and becomes his minion.
