Tripura is a state in Northeast India. The third-smallest state in the country, it covers and is bordered by Bangladesh (East Bengal) to the north, south, and west, and the Indian states of Assam and Mizoram to the east. In 2011 the state had 3,671,032 residents, constituting 0.3% of the country's population. Native Tripuri people form about 30 per cent of Tripura's population. The Bengali people form the ethno-linguistic majority in Tripura. The entire work of this article is based on Census of India, conducted by "The Office of the Registrar General and Census Commissioner, India" under Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India. According to the data from the Census of 2011, there are 8 districts, 23 sub-divisions and 20 municipal towns in the state of Tripura. North Tripura
North Tripura is an administrative district in the state of Tripura in India. The district headquarters are located at Dharmanagar. The district occupies an area of 1422.19 km² and has a population of 693,947 (as of 2011). History The territory occupied by North Tripura district was part of the princely state of Tripura until 9 September 1949, when it was merged with the Union of India. The district came into existence on 1 September 1970, when the entire state was divided into three districts. On 14 April. 1995 Dhalai district was carved out from this district. Ambassa (pron: /আমবাসা/) is a census town located in the Indian state of Tripura a Municipal Council in Dhalai district. Ambassa is also the headquarters of the Dhalai district. This district was created in January, 2012 when four new districts were created in Tripura, taking the number of districts in the state from four to eight.
