List Of Caricatures At Sardi's
The following is an incomplete list of celebrities whose caricatures appear on the celebrity wall at Sardi's restaurant in New York City. All have eaten at Sardi's. The date or year each caricature was added to Sardi's is often mentioned in brackets after the celebrities' name. Also mentioned is either the production the actor was in at the time of the unveiling or the play that included their definitive role; producers' companies are listed instead. Finally, some of the caricatures listed also include the cartoonist's name: Alex Gard, John Mackey, Donald Bevan, and Richard Baratz are the four artists to date who have created all the caricatures in the restaurant. In 1979, Vincent Sardi, Jr., donated a collection of 227 caricatures from the restaurant to the Billy Rose Theatre Collection of the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts. Caricature
A caricature is a rendered image showing the features of its subject in a simplified or exaggerated way through sketching, pencil strokes, or other artistic drawings (compare to: cartoon). Christine Andreas (born October 1, 1951) is an American Broadway actress and singer. Biography Andreas was born in Camden, New Jersey, to James Francis Andreas, a systems analyst, and Teresa Cecilia Genovese Andreas. Winthrop Ames (November 25, 1870 – November 3, 1937) was an American theatre director and producer, playwright and screenwriter. For three decades at the beginning of the 20th century, Ames was an important force on Broadway, whose repertoire included directing and producing Shakespeare and classic plays, new plays, and revivals of Gilbert and Sullivan's Savoy operas. Biography Ames was born in North Easton, Massachusetts to Cathrine Hobart and Oakes Angier Ames, members of a wealthy manufacturing family. Ames studied art and architecture at Harvard University. Michael Allinson (30 December 1920 – 30 December 2010) was a British-American stage and film actor. Biography John Michael Allinson was born on 30 December 1920 in London, the son of British painter and sculptor Adrian Allinson, founding member of the avant garde London Group of painters. He was the grandson of doctor and nutritionist Thomas Allinson, the founder of the Allinson Bread Company. He attended Ryeford Hall, Wycliffe College, Gloucestershire and the University of Lausanne. Herbert Kelcey (October 10, 1856 – July 10, 1917) born Herbert Henry Lamb, was an English-born American stage and film actor. Richard Alexander (November 19, 1902 – August 9, 1989) was an American film character actor.
