This is a list of airports in Iran, grouped by type and sorted by location. As of 2013, Iran had 319 airports which made Iran the 22nd country in the world with most airports. Iran, officially the Islamic Republic of Iran, is a country in Central Eurasia and/or Western Asia. Ahvaz International Airport
Ahvaz International Airport is an airport serving the city of Ahvaz, Iran. It offers flights to domestic destinations as well as regional international destinations, such as Dubai, Istanbul and Kuwait. Airlines and destinations Accidents and incidents On 13 April 1970, Douglas C-47B EP-AGZ of the Air Taxi Co. stalled on take-off and crashed. The aircraft was destroyed by the subsequent fire. Ahvaz
Ahvaz ( fa, اهواز, Ahvâz ) is a city in the southwest of Iran and the capital of Khuzestan province. Ahvaz's population is about 1,300,000 and its built-up area with the nearby town of Sheybani is home to 1,136,989 inhabitants. It is home to Persians, Arabs, Bakhtiaris, Dezfulis, Shushtaris, and others. Languages spoken in the area include Persian and Arabic, as well as dialects of Luri ( Bakhtiari), Dezfuli, Shushtari, and others. Abadeh
Abadeh ( fa, آباده, also Romanized as Ābādeh) is a city and capital of Abadeh County, in Fars Province, Iran. Abadeh is situated at an elevation of in a fertile plain on the high road between Isfahan and Shiraz, from the former and from the latter. At the 2006 census, its population was 52,042, in 14,184 families. As of 2009, the population was estimated to be 59,042. It is the largest city in the Northern Fars Region (South Central-Iran), which is famed for its carved wood-work, made of the wood of pear and box trees. Sesame oil, castor oil, grain, and various fruits are also produced there. The area is famous for its Abadeh rugs. Abadan International Airport
Abadan International Airport is situated 12 kilometers away from the city of Abadan, Iran. History During World War II, Abadan Airport was a major logistics center for Lend-Lease aircraft being sent to the Soviet Union by the United States. Beginning in May 1942, the United States Army Air Forces Air Technical Service Command and the Douglas Aircraft Company established a plant here, with the 17th Air Depot Group assembling newly arrived aircraft and flight-testing them. Once prepared, they were flown to Mehrabad Airport, Tehran, for delivery to the Soviets. Abadan, Iran
Abadan ( fa, آبادان ''Ābādān'', ) is a city and capital of Abadan County, Khuzestan Province, which is located in the southwest of Iran. It lies on Abadan Island ( long, 3–19 km or 2–12 miles wide). The island is bounded in the west by the Arvand waterway and to the east by the Bahmanshir outlet of the Karun River (the Arvand Rood), from the Persian Gulf, near the Iran–Iraq border. Abadan is 140 km from the provincial capital city of Ahvaz. Etymology The earliest mention of the island of Abadan, if not the port itself, is found in works of the geographer Marcian, who renders the name "Apphadana".
