Texas Longhorns Baseball
The Texas Longhorns baseball team represents The University of Texas at Austin in NCAA Division I intercollegiate men's baseball competition. The Longhorns currently compete in the Big 12 Conference. The University of Texas began varsity intercollegiate competition in baseball in 1894. Texas is the winningest NCAA Division I college baseball program of all time in terms of win percentage, with an all-time win–loss record of 3696–1396–32 () as of the end of the 2022 season, including a 3526–1248–28 () versus collegiate opponents. 1965 Major League Baseball Draft
The 1965 Major League Baseball Draft is the first year in which a draft took place for Major League Baseball. It was held on June 8–9 in New York City. In Major League Baseball's first Free Agent Amateur Draft, the Kansas City Athletics selected Arizona State sophomore Rick Monday as the number one pick. Kansas City also chose ten future major leaguers, including Sal Bando (6th round) and Gene Tenace (20th round), building the base for the Oakland Athletics' championship teams of the early 1970s. A total of 813 players were selected. Some of the more significant picks were catcher Johnny Bench by the Cincinnati Reds in the second round, pitcher Nolan Ryan by the New York Mets in the twelfth round, and infielder Graig Nettles by the Minnesota Twins in the fourth round. Dave Chalk (baseball)
David Lee Chalk (born August 30, 1950) is an American former professional baseball player, whose primary positions were third base and shortstop. Chalk appeared in 903 games over nine seasons (–) in Major League Baseball for four teams, and was a two-time American League All-Star. Born in Del Rio, Texas, he batted and threw right-handed, and was listed as tall and . Chalk played varsity baseball for Justin F. Kimball High School in Dallas, where he was named all-city for two years before graduating in 1968. Montreal Expos
The Montreal Expos (french: link=no, Les Expos de Montréal) were a Canadian professional baseball team based in Montreal, Quebec. The Expos were the first Major League Baseball (MLB) franchise located outside the United States. They played in the National League (NL) East division from 1969 until 2004. Following the 2004 season, the franchise relocated to Washington, D.C., and became the Washington Nationals. Howard Lawrence Hardy (born January 10, 1948, at Goose Creek, Texas) is an American former pitcher, coach and manager in professional baseball. Hardy threw and batted right-handed, stood tall and weighed in his playing days. Hardy attended Bellaire High School (Texas), and graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in business administration. Selected in the 23rd round of the amateur draft by the San Diego Padres, he reached Major League Baseball with the 1974 Padres, appearing in 76 games as a rookie, all but one of them as a relief pitcher, winning nine games, saving two, and losing four. He would appear in only 18 more MLB games in 1975–1976, with the Padres and Houston Astros, and spend the rest of his playing career at the Triple-A level of minor league baseball. The 1967 Major League Baseball draft (or "first-year player draft") recruits amateur baseball players into the American Major League Baseball league. The players selected in 1967 included many talented prospects who later had careers in the professional league.
