List Of South Carolina State Parks
The State of South Carolina has a group of protected areas managed by the South Carolina State Park Service (often abbreviated to Park Service). Formed in 1933 in conjunction with the formalization of the federal Civilian Conservation Corps program, the State Park Service is administered by the state's Department of Parks, Recreation & Tourism (SCPRT). There are a total of 47 facilities that the State Park Service administers, protecting nearly 80,000 acres of sensitive, attractive, and/or historically significant lands in South Carolina. Colonial Dorchester State Historic Site
Colonial Dorchester State Historic Site sits along the Ashley River, near the town of Summerville in Dorchester County, South Carolina. In 1969, the site was donated to the South Carolina State Park Service and was added to the National Register of Historic Places on December 2, 1969. Currently the site of a 325- acre park, Old Dorchester State Park offers visitors a glimpse into South Carolina's Colonial past. Kings Mountain State Park
Kings Mountain State Park is a South Carolina state park located in the Piedmont region of South Carolina. It is situated in York County near the city of Blacksburg, about southwest of Charlotte, North Carolina near Interstate 85. This large hilly park includes the Living History Farm, which is representative of a typical early 19th-century Piedmont farm. It includes a barn, cotton gin, blacksmith, and carpenter shop. The park also surrounds Lake York as well as the smaller Lake Crawford. The park has connecting trails to the adjoining Kings Mountain National Military Park and Crowders Mountain State Park. Keowee-Toxaway State Park
Keowee-Toxaway State Park is a state park in Pickens County, South Carolina. It was created in 1970 along the shores of Lake Keowee from lands previously owned by Duke Power. Jones Gap State Park
Jones Gap State Park is a South Carolina state park in northern Greenville County, near Marietta. Huntington Beach State Park
Huntington Beach State Park is a 2500 acre coastal preserve and state park near Murrells Inlet, in Georgetown County, South Carolina. Hickory Knob State Resort Park
Hickory Knob State Resort Park is a state park located on the shores of Lake Strom Thurmond near the town of McCormick in McCormick County, South Carolina. It is the only resort park in the South Carolina State Park system. Activities and amenities Activities available at the park include picnicking, fishing, boating, swimming, biking and camping. Hampton Plantation
Hampton Plantation, also known as Hampton Plantation House and Hampton Plantation State Historic Site, is a historic plantation, now a state historic site, north of McClellanville, South Carolina. Hamilton Branch State Park
Hamilton Branch State Park is located near the town of Plum Branch in McCormick County. It sits on a 731-acre peninsula in Lake Strom Thurmond. The park became part of the South Carolina State Park Service in 1972, with land leased from the United States Army Corps of Engineers. Goodale State Park
Goodale State Park is a South Carolina state park located just outside Camden, SC. In addition to a lake, that is actually a Civil War era mill pond, this park also has canoe access to Pine Tree Creek. Givhans Ferry State Park
Givhans Ferry State Park is a state park located near the town of Ridgeville in Dorchester County, South Carolina. History The property used to create Givhans Ferry State Park was donated by the city of Charleston in 1934 and was one of the original built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in South Carolina. Its namesake, Phillip Givhan, was a ferry master on the Edisto River and operated Givhan's Ferry, which allowed access between Augusta and Charleston. Edisto Beach State Park
Edisto Beach State Park is located on the coast of South Carolina, south of Charleston, near the town of Edisto Beach in Colleton County. The park offers South Carolina's longest system of handicapped accessible hiking and biking trails. The trails wind through Edisto Island's maritime forest, leading to sites such as a Native American shell midden dated to 2000 BC, and a survey monument placed by Alexander Bache in 1850.
