KK Crvena zvezda is a men's professional basketball Sports club, club based in Belgrade, Serbia. Crvena zvezda is a part of the ABA League JTD, Adriatic Basketball Association and competes in the ABA League, EuroLeague and in the Basketball League of Serbia. The Crvena zvezda squads have played in three different National Leagues since 1945, including the First Federal Basketball League, Yugoslav First Federal League (1945–1992), the YUBA League, First League of Serbia and Montenegro (1992–2006), and the Serbian League (2006 onwards). The team plays domestic home matches in the Aleksandar Nikolić Hall, and the EuroLeague or EuroCup Basketball, EuroCup home matches in Štark Arena. ABA League Supercup
The ABA League Supercup, also credited as ABA Super Cup, is an annual men's professional basketball supercup competition between teams from the ABA League. It is run by the ABA League JTD. It is a regional competition, that is contested between teams from six countries: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and Slovenia. History The ABA League Assembly, held on July 24, 2017, in Belgrade, Serbia, decided to organize the ABA League Supercup, with 8 participants. In 2017, the first edition of the ABA Super Cup took place in Bar, Montenegro, where Cedevita became champions. In the second season, the teams met in Laktaši, where Crvena zvezda became champions. The third ABA Super Cup took place in Zagreb in 2019 and was won by Partizan. FIBA Hall Of Fame
The FIBA Hall of Fame, or FIBA Basketball Hall of Fame, honors players, coaches, teams, referees, and administrators who have greatly contributed to international competitive basketball. It was established by FIBA, in 1991. It includes the " Samaranch Library", the largest basketball library in the world, that as of 2007, had over 10,000 basketball books, and 950 magazines, from over 65 countries. The FIBA Hall of Fame building is a basketball museum built in Alcobendas, Community of Madrid, Spain, by the Pedro Ferrándiz Foundation. Initially, induction ceremonies occurred every two years, with the first one taking place in 2007. Svetislav Pešić
Svetislav "Kari" Pešić ( sr-cyrl, Светислав "Кари" Пешић; born August 28, 1949) is a Serbian professional basketball coach and former player who is the head coach of the Serbia men's national team. Playing career During his club playing career, Pešić played with Pirot (1964–1967), Partizan (1967–1971), and Bosna (1971–1979). As a member of Bosna, he won a Yugoslav Cup and a Yugoslav League championship, in 1978. Also, he won the FIBA European Champions Cup (EuroLeague) championship in 1979 with Bosna. Ranko Žeravica
Ranko Žeravica ( sr-cyr, Ранко Жеравица; 17 November 1929 – 29 October 2015) was a Serbian professional basketball coach. With a career that spanned over 50 years, he is most noted for his work with the senior Yugoslav national team, during the 1960s, 1970s, and early 1980s. In particular, Žeravica's single biggest achievement was guiding the country to its first ever major competition win — a gold medal on home soil, at the 1970 FIBA World Championship — leading to a huge expansion of the game of basketball throughout Yugoslavia. The 1973–74 FIBA European Cup Winners' Cup was the eighth edition of FIBA's 2nd-tier level European-wide professional club basketball competition, contested between national domestic cup champions, running from October 1973, to 4 April 1974. It was contested by 25 teams, one less than in the previous edition. The FIBA Saporta Cup was the name of the second-tier level European-wide professional club basketball competition, where the domestic National Cup winners, from all over Europe, played against each other. European Professional Club Basketball System
Professional basketball clubs in Europe can compete in a number of different competitions, including national leagues, regional (multi-national) leagues, and continental competitions. It is therefore possible for clubs from some countries to take part in several levels of competition in the same season. Aleksandar Nikolić
Aleksandar "Aca" Nikolić ( sr-cyr, Александар "Аца" Николић; 28 October 1924 – 12 March 2000) was a Serbian professional basketball player and coach. He was also a professor at the University of Belgrade's Faculty of Sport and Physical Education. He is often referred to as the Father of Yugoslav Basketball. Nikolić was a mentor of many world-class basketball coaches, such Božidar Maljković, Dušan Ivković, Bogdan Tanjević, Željko Obradović, etc. Nikolić was nicknamed the Professor, the Iron Sergeant. The 2021–22 KK Crvena zvezda season was the 77th season in the existence of the club. For the season it's referred to as KK Crvena zvezda mts for sponsorship reasons. The club won three titles in the season (ABA League, Serbian League, and Serbian Cup), defending all three titles from the previous season. Overview Pre-season At the end of previous season, contracts expired with four players: Marko Jagodić-Kuridža, Jordan Loyd, Landry Nnoko and Duop Reath. The 2016–17 season is the Crvena zvezda 72nd season in the existence of the club. The team played in the Basketball League of Serbia, in the Adriatic League and in the Euroleague. Overview Season 2016–17 saw Crvena zvezda parting ways with its two star players, Maik Zirbes and Quincy Miller, as well as Tarence Kinsey, Vladimir Štimac and Vasilije Micić. During the pre-season, the club signed Ognjen Kuzmić, Milko Bjelica and Charles Jenkins, brought talented Petar Rakićević and promoted Ognjen Dobrić from its development team. When the season already began, the club brought on Nate Wolters who was waived by Detroit Pistons. Squad was finally completed mid-season, with the addition of Deon Thompson to the roster.
