Independence Day Award
The Independence Day Award ( bn, স্বাধীনতা পদক), also termed Independence Award ( bn, স্বাধীনতা পুরস্কার), Swadhinata Padak, and Swadhinata Puroskar, is the highest state award given by the government of Bangladesh. Introduced in 1977 by president Ziaur Rahman, this award is bestowed upon Bangladeshi citizens or organizations in recognition of substantial contribution to one of many fields, including the War of Liberation, the Language Movement, education, literature, journalism, public service, science and technology, medical science, social science, song, games and sports, fine arts, rural development, and other areas. Each awardee receives a gold medal, a certificate of honour, and 500,000 Bangladeshi takas (US$5803). A cabinet committee on national awards prepares the list of each year's nominees and forwards the list to the head of the government for final approval. Nilima Ibrahim
Neelima Ibrahim (11 October 1921 – 18 June 2002) was a Bangladeshi educationist, littérateur and social worker. She is well known for her scholarship on Bengali literature but even more so for her depiction of raped and tortured women in the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War in her book ''Ami Birangana Bolchi''. She was awarded Bangla Academy Literary Award in 1969, Begum Rokeya Padak in 1996 and Ekushey Padak in 2000 by the Government of Bangladesh for her contributions to Bangla literature. Kazi M Badruddoza
Kazi M Badruddoza (born 1 January 1927) is a National Emeritus Scientist working for the National Agricultural Research System of Bangladesh. Education and career He completed his B.Sc.Ag (Hons) from the University of Dhaka in 1952 and later received his Ph.D. from Louisiana State University. Among different posts, Badruddoza was director general for the Pakistan Agricultural Research Council. He was also chief research adviser for FAU/UNDP, Hanoi (1985–88). and president (2012–13) of the Bangladesh Academy of Agriculture (BAAG). Pran Gopal Datta
Pran Gopal Datta (born 1 October 1953) is a Bangladeshi physician, university administrator and politician. In September 2021, he won the candidacy of membership of Jatiya Sangsad representing the Comilla-7 constituency in a bi-election unopposed. The membership of the constituency became vacant after Ali Ashraf died in office in July 2021. Datta was awarded the Independence Day Award, the highest civilian award in Bangladesh, for his contributions to the medical field in 2012. He is an ear, nose and throat specialist. Abul Fazal (writer)
Abul Fazal (1 July 1903–4 May 1983) was a Bangladeshi writer and academic. He served as the 4th vice-chancellor of University of Chittagong. He was awarded Bangla Academy Literary Award in 1962 and Independence Day Award in 2012 (posthumously). Early life and education Fazal was born at Satkania Upazila in Chittagong District in 1903 to Moulvi Fazlur Rahman, an Imam of Chittagong Jame Masjid. Fazal earned B.A. from the University of Dhaka. Rafiqul Islam (1 January 1934 – 30 November 2021) was a Bangladeshi educationist, scholar, writer, linguist and cultural activist. He was the president of Bangla Academy since May 2021 until his death. He was inducted as a National Professor by the Government of Bangladesh in July 2018. Bazlur Rahman (3 August 1941 – 26 February 2008) was a Bangladeshi writer and journalist. He was awarded Independence Day Award in journalism by the Government of Bangladesh in 2012 posthumously. Abul Kalam Shamsuddin (3 November 18974 March 1978) was a journalist, politician and littérateur. He was born at Trishal of Mymensingh. Early life Shamsuddin passed HSC from Dhaka College in 1919.
