Haitian Americans
Haitian Americans (french: Haïtiens-Américains; ht, ayisyen ameriken) are a group of Americans of full or partial Haitian origin or descent. The largest proportion of Haitians in the United States live in Little Haiti to the South Florida area. In addition, they have settled in major Northeast cities such as New York City, Boston, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington, D.C. and in Chicago and Detroit in the Midwest. Most are immigrants or their descendants from the mid-late 20th-century migrations to the United States. Haitian Americans represent the largest group within the Haitian diaspora. In 2018 the US Census estimated that 1,084,055 people of full or partial Haitian descent lived in the United States. Jean-Claude Brizard
Jean-Claude Brizard (born January 12, 1963) is an American former school superintendent. He served as chief executive officer of Chicago Public Schools from 2011 to 2012. Directly before coming to Chicago, Brizard served as the superintendent of the Rochester City School District. Brizard is best known as an education reformer, a strong charter school advocate and a champion of labor reform, particularly in regards to limiting teacher tenure status. Brizard started his career as a teacher, then an administrator, in the New York School System. Danielle Laraque-Arena
Danielle Laraque-Arena is an American pediatrician, academician and administrator. She is currently a senior scholar-in-residence at the New York Academy of Medicine. Prior to her role at the academy, she was a professor at Einstein College and the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, as well as chair of the pediatrics department at Maimonides Medical Center. From 2016 to 2018, Laraque-Arena served as president of State University of New York Upstate Medical University, succeeding Gregory Eastwood as the first woman to be president. In that role, she also served as CEO of the Upstate Health System. Laraque-Arena was born in Haiti and moved with her family to the United States in the early 1960s. Viter Juste
Viter Juste (December 15, 1924 – November 19, 2012) was a Haitian-born American community leader, businessman, and activist. Juste coined the name, "Little Haiti," for the neighborhood in Miami, Florida which is a center of the Haitian-American community in Florida. He is considered the father of the Haitian American community in Miami. Biography Early life Viter Juste was born on the island of La Gonâve, a Haitian island in the Gulf of Gonâve, on December 15, 1924. His father was a businessman. Viter Juste received a college degree in business and accounting. In 1946, Juste opened his first business, a supermarket located in the Haitian capital, Port-au-Prince. Ralph Victor Gilles (; born 14 January 1970) is a Canadian-American automobile designer and executive. In 1992, he joined Chrysler. Gilles styled the North American Car of the Year-winning 2005 Chrysler 300. Gilles also led the design team that created the 2014 SRT Viper. Gilles was the President and CEO of Chrysler's SRT brand and Senior Vice President of Design at Chrysler before being promoted to Head of Design for Fiat Chrysler Automobiles in April 2015. Mignon Faget (born November 1933) is a jewelry designer based in her native New Orleans, Louisiana, New Orleans, Louisiana. Faget has long been acknowledged as one of New Orleans' premier designers of fine jewelry. Her family settled in the city in the late 18th century after leaving Haiti.
