Hungarian Canadians
Hungarian Canadians ( hu, kanadai magyarok) are persons in Canada of Hungarian ancestry. According to the 2016 Census, there are 348,085 Canadians of Hungarian ancestry. The Hungarian minority is the 24th largest ethnic group of Canada. The bulk of Hungarian immigration occurred after World War II, with the wave peaking after the 1956 Hungarian revolution against communist rule, when over 100,000 Hungarian refugees went to Canada. The Hungarian Canadian community is among the country's multiple ethnicities; Canada is one of the top five countries of the Hungarian diaspora. Alberta As of the 2016 Census 56,270 people (1.41% of the population) in Alberta have Hungarian roots, of which 7,660 have some knowledge of the language. Austin William Pasztor (born November 26, 1990) is a former Canadian professional American football offensive tackle. He played college football at Virginia and was signed by the Minnesota Vikings as an undrafted free agent in 2012. Early years Pasztor attended Glendale High School before transferring to Fork Union Military Academy. College career Pasztor finished his college eligibility with the Virginia Cavaliers. He was selected fourth overall by the Edmonton Eskimos in the 2012 CFL Draft. Tom Wappel
Thomas William Wappel (born February 9, 1950) is a Canadian politician. He was a Liberal member of the House of Commons from 1988 to 2008, representing the Toronto riding of Scarborough West and its successor riding of Scarborough Southwest. He did not seek re-election in the 2008 general election. Wappel is a staunch social conservative. He is a prominent opponent of abortion and gay rights, and has made controversial comments on immigration and the role of religion in government. He opposes the death penalty, and describes himself as holding liberal views on economic issues. In 1998, he was awarded the Joseph P. Borowski Award. He is separated, with five children. Aaron Voros
Aaron Voros (born July 2, 1981) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player. Voros played in the National Hockey League with the Minnesota Wild, New York Rangers and Anaheim Ducks. He served two consecutive years as the Team President of the NHL Players Association for the New York Rangers and one year for the Anaheim Ducks. Playing career Voros played amateur hockey in his hometown of Surrey, British Columbia with the Surrey Minor Hockey Association, also playing Nor-Wes Caps-Junior B of the PIJHL and Junior A with the Victoria Salsa of the BCHL. Shannon Szabados
Shannon Lynn Szabados (; born August 6, 1986) is a Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender for the PWHPA and the Canada women's national ice hockey team. Szabados had played for the MacEwan University Griffins and the NAIT Ooks men's hockey teams of the Alberta Colleges Athletics Conference from 2007 until 2013. Szabados has been the first female player at several different tournaments and in several leagues, including minor, junior, and professional hockey. While playing junior hockey, Szabados became the first female to appear in the Western Hockey League (WHL) where she played exhibition games for the Tri-City Americans.
