British Bangladeshi
British Bangladeshis ( bn, বিলাতী বাংলাদেশী, Bilatī Bangladeshī) are people of Bangladeshi origin who have attained citizenship in the United Kingdom, through immigration and historical naturalisation. The term can also refer to their descendants. Bengali Muslims have prominently been migrating to the UK since the 1940s. Migration reached its peak during the 1970s, with most originating from the Sylhet Division. The largest concentration live in east London boroughs, such as Tower Hamlets. This large diaspora in London leads people in Sylhet to refer to British Bangladeshis as Londoni ( bn, লন্ডনী). Bangladeshis form one of the UK's largest group of people of overseas descent and are also one of the country's youngest and fastest growing communities. Iqbal Ahmed ( bn, ইকবাল আহমেদ; born 4 August 1956) is a Bangladesh-born British entrepreneur. Based in Manchester, he made his fortune importing shrimp. His two companies, Seamark and Ibco, have extensive interests in shipping, hotel and real estate development, hospitality, and food. Foysol Hussain Choudhury, MBE ( bn, ফয়ছল হোসেন চৌধূরী; born 5 January 1969) is a Bangladeshi-born British businessman, and a Scottish Labour politician. He has been a Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) for the Lothian region since May 2021. Choudhury is Chairman of the Edinburgh and Lothians Regional Equality Council. He is one of the founding directors and the Vice Chair of the Edinburgh Mela. He is also Chairman of the Bangladesh Samity Edinburgh. The British Curry Awards is an annual awards dinner dedicated to the British curry industry. It was established in 2005 by Enam Ali and has continued to this day. Each individual award is split for geographic purposes — regional splits of Scotland, North West, North East, Midlands, Wales, South East, South West, London Central and City, and London Suburbs — and expertise. Enam Ali (; 1 December 1960 – 17 July 2022) was a Bangladeshi-born British businessman who founded The British Curry Awards, ''Spice Business Magazine'', and ''Ion TV''. Early life Ali was born in Sylhet District, East Pakistan (now Bangladesh). In 1974, he went to the United Kingdom to study law but decided to pursue a degree in hospitality and management. While studying he worked part-time for the Taj Mahal restaurant group. Career He opened restaurant Le Raj in 1989. In 1990, he became a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. Bangladesh Caterers Association UK (abbreviated as BCA) is the Umbrella organization, umbrella organisation of British Bangladeshi, British-Bangladeshi restaurants. It was established in 1960 to represent the catering industry run by the ethnic Bangladeshis. Premise In 1960, Israel Miah became the founder president of what became the Bangladesh Caterers Association. It represents the political and economic interests of the owners of 12,000 British Bangladeshi restaurants and takeaways across the UK. It organises various activities to promote Bangladeshi cuisine in Great Britain as well as in Europe. Bajloor Rashid, ( bn, বজলুর রশিদ; born 28 May 1962) is a Bangladeshi-born British restaurateur, philanthropist and humanitarian. From 2006 to 2012, he was the president for the Bangladesh Caterers Association UK. Early life Rashid was born in the village of Balikandi, Chandnighat, Moulvibazar, Sylhet, East Pakistan (now Bangladesh). In 1978, he came to the United Kingdom to further his education.
