Earl W
Earl () is a rank of the nobility in the United Kingdom. The title originates in the Old English word ''eorl'', meaning "a man of noble birth or rank". The word is cognate with the Scandinavian form ''jarl'', and meant "chieftain", particularly a chieftain set to rule a territory in a king's stead. After the Norman Conquest, it became the equivalent of the continental count (in England in the earlier period, it was more akin to a duke; in Scotland, it assimilated the concept of mormaer). Alternative names for the rank equivalent to "earl" or "count" in the nobility structure are used in other countries, such as the ''hakushaku'' (伯爵) of the post-restoration Japanese Imperial era. Menchu Gal
Carmen Gal Orendain, better known as Menchu Gal, ( Irún, Guipúzcoa, 7 January 1919 – San Sebastián, Guipúzcoa, 12 March 2008) was a Spanish painter from the Basque Country. Her work in landscapes and portraits made her famous with her personal attraction to vivid colors. In 1959, she became the first woman to be awarded Spain's National Painting Prize. Biography Carmen Gal Orendain was born into a wealthy and cultured family, and at the age of seven she began drawing classes with the painter Gaspar Montes Iturrioz (1901–1998). At the age of 13, she was selected for the IX Exhibition of New Guipuzcoan Artists, which was held at the Casino del Kursaal in the Basque city of San Sebastián. In 1932, at 15, she traveled to Paris and enrolled in the academy of the Cubist painter Amédée Ozenfant. Jose Etxenagusia Errazkin or, in Spanish, José Echenagusía Errazquin (1 February 1844 – 31 January 1912) was a Basque genre painter. He signed his works "Echena". Carlos Elejalde Garay (born 10 October 1960) better known as Karra Elejalde, is a Spanish actor and occasional filmmaker. Biography Carlos Elejalde Garay was born on 10 October 1960 in Vitoria-Gasteiz. He developed his early acting career on independent stage plays. After making his feature film debut with a role in the 1987 film ''A los cuatro vientos'', Elejalde's collaborations with Basque cinema auteurs such as Juanma Bajo Ulloa, Álex de la Iglesia or Julio Medem launched his acting career in the 1990s. Hector Elizondo
In Greek mythology, Hector (; grc, Ἕκτωρ, Hektōr, label=none, ) is a character in Homer's Iliad. He was a Trojan prince and the greatest warrior for Troy during the Trojan War. Baltasar De Echave
Baltasar de Echave Orio (late 16th century – mid-17th century) was a Basque Spanish painter. As there was a painter of the same name, thought to be his son, he is known as Echave the Elder. Life He was born at Zumaya, Guipuzcoa, Spain, and became one of the earliest Spanish artists to reach Mexico, arriving at about the same time, near the end of the 16th century, as Sebastian Arteaga and Alonzo Vasquez. As was tradition for young men of that time, his wife, also a painter, was his instructor. He died in Mexico. Juan de Echevarría Zuricalday or, in Basque, Juan Etxebarria Zurikaldai (14 April 1875. Bilbao - 8 June 1931, Madrid) was a Spanish painter of Basque ancestry. He is generally associated with the Fauvist movement and is known primarily for landscapes, still lifes and portraits. Biography His father was an industrialist.
