Assamese Language
Assamese (), also Asamiya ( ), is an Indo-Aryan language spoken mainly in the north-east Indian state of Assam, where it is an official language, and it serves as a '' lingua franca'' of the wider region. The easternmost Indo-Iranian language, it has over 23 million speakers. Nefamese, an Assamese-based pidgin, is used in Arunachal Pradesh, and Nagamese, an Assamese-based Creole language, is widely used in Nagaland. The Kamtapuri language of Rangpur division of Bangladesh and the Cooch Behar and Jalpaiguri districts of India are linguistically closer to Assamese, though the speakers identify with the Bengali culture and the literary language. In the past, it was the court language of the Ahom kingdom from the 17th century. Along with other Eastern Indo-Aryan languages, Assamese evolved at least before the 7th century CE from the middle Indo-Aryan Magadhi Prakrit. ''Raamdhenu'' ( en, Rainbow) is a 2011 Indian Assamese romantic drama film directed by veteran Munin Barua and produced by Pride East Entertainments Private Limited. It stars an ensemble cast of Jatin Bora, Prastuti Parashar, Tapan Das, Utpal Das and Nishita Goswami in the lead roles. The film was released in 24 cinema halls across Assam on 4 February 2011. The music is composed by Jatin Sharma. ''Dwaar'' ( as, দুৱাৰ, ''The Voyage out'') is a 2013 Indian Assamese drama film directed by Bidyut Chakravarty, with his own screenplay, and produced by Sanjive Narain and Bidyut Chakravarty himself. It was adapted from the Assamese short story ''Bahiroloi Jowa Baat'' by Apurba Sarma. ''Dwaar'' stars Kapil Bora, Zerifa Wahid and Mahika Sharma in the lead roles. The literal translation of the title means Door. The film won the Best Director, Best Music and Best Audiography award in the Assam State Film Awards for the period 2010–2012. ''Mid-Day'' (stylised as mid-day) is a morning daily Indian compact newspaper owned by Jagran Prakashan Limited. Editions in various languages were published in Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore and Pune. In 2011, the Delhi and Bangalore editions were closed down. In 2014, Jagran Prakashan shut down the mid-day Pune edition as well. Establishment It was established in Mumbai in 1979 as a family-owned newspaper by Khalid Ansari. Later, his son, Tariq Ansari led the paper, before it was sold to Jagran Prakashan in 2010. Agnisnaan is a 1985 Indian Assamese language drama film directed by Bhabendra Nath Saikia. The film is based on Saikia's novel titled ''Antareep''. The film starred Indra Bania, Kashmiri Saikia Baruah, Chetana Das, Ashok Deka, Moloya Goswami, Arjun Guha Thakuria, Arun Nath and Biju Phukan. Plot The story revolves around a wealthy businessman who opts for a second marriage. This decision shocks and angers his first wife and his son. It is a story on human psychology along with an off-beat story line. How his first wife feels cheated in her unquestionable love and dedication to him and how she takes revenge is the basis of the story. ''Halodhia Choraye Baodhan Khai'' ( Assamese: ''হালধীয়া চৰায়ে বাওধান খায়'', English subtitle: ''The Catastrophe'') is a 1987 Indian Assamese-language film made by director Jahnu Barua. It won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in 1988 and multiple awards at the Locarno International Film Festival in 1988. It was the third full-length feature film made by Barua. Indra Bania
Indra Bania ( as, ইন্দ্ৰ বনিয়া; 24 December 1942 – 25 March 2015) was an Indian theatre actor, playwright, film actor and director from Assam. His performance in Jahnu Barua's ''Halodhia Choraye Baodhan Khai'' earned him the Silver Leopard Best Actor's award at the Locarno International Film Festival. He was the recipient of the Natasurya Phani Sarma Award. Biography Early life Bania was born at Dhalpur village in North Lakhimpur, Assam on 24 December 1942 to an indigenous Brittial Bania (an indigenous Assamese community recognised as a Scheduled Caste). After completing his primary education, in 1958, he came to Guwahati for higher education. While continuing his studies, he began his acting career as a stand up comedian.
