List Of African-American Newspapers In Utah
This is a list of African-American newspapers that have been published in the state of Utah. Although new African-American newspapers continued to be established in Utah through at least the 1990s, many of the state's historical African-American newspapers date to a period of journalistic ferment between 1890 and 1910. During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the state's African-American population grew, reaching 1,144 in 1910. The state's first African-American newspapers, ''The Broad Ax'' and the ''Utah Plain Dealer'', were both established in 1895, and several others followed soon after. Many of these early local papers were members of the Western Negro Press Association, which held its fifth annual meeting in Salt Lake City in 1900. The ''Plain Dealer'' was the longest-lasting of the early papers, running for more than a decade from 1895 to 1909. The area was first staked out by settler Joseph Harker and his family in the area they named as "over Jordan" (referring to the land west of the Jordan River, which runs through the valley). This is a list of African-American newspapers that have been published in the state of Nevada. Nevada was "the last state to remove itself from the list of states that have never had a Black newspaper" in the mid-20th century. As a result, during that early period, "no Negro-owned newspaper, even of the most ephemeral kind, was published in Nevada." Newspapers To be included in this list, a periodical should be mentioned in a reliable source as an African-American newspaper published in Nevada. African-American Newspapers
African-American newspapers (also known as the Black press or Black newspapers) are news publications in the United States serving African-American communities. Samuel Cornish and John Brown Russwurm started the first African-American periodical called ''Freedom's Journal'' in 1827. During the antebellum South, other African-American newspapers sprang forth, such as '' The North Star'' founded in 1847 by Frederick Douglass. As African Americans moved to urban centers around the country, virtually every large city with a significant African-American population soon had newspapers directed towards African Americans. These newspapers gained audiences outside African-American circles. In the 21st century, papers (like newspapers of all sorts) have shut down, merged, or shrunk in response to the dominance of the Internet in terms of providing free news and information, and providing cheap advertising. History Origins Most of the early African-American publications, such as '' ...

Julius F
The gens Julia (''gēns Iūlia'', ) was one of the most prominent patrician families in ancient Rome. Members of the gens attained the highest dignities of the state in the earliest times of the Republic. The first of the family to obtain the consulship was Gaius Julius Iulus in 489 BC. The gens is perhaps best known, however, for Gaius Julius Caesar, the dictator and grand uncle of the emperor Augustus, through whom the name was passed to the so-called Julio-Claudian dynasty of the first century AD. The Julius became very common in Roman Empire, imperial times, as the descendants of persons enrolled as Roman citizenship, citizens under the early emperors began to make their mark in history.''Dictionary of Greek and Roman Biography and Mythology'', vol. II, pp. 642, 643. Origin The Julii were of Alban people, Alban origin, mentioned as one of the leading Alban houses, which Tullus Hostilius removed to Rome upon the destruction of Alba Longa. The Julii also existed at an ...
