Liberalism In Denmark
This article gives an overview of liberalism and radicalism in Denmark. It is limited to liberal and radical egalitarian parties with substantial support, mainly proved by having had a representation in the parliament. The sign ⇒ denotes another party in that scheme. For inclusion in this scheme it isn't necessary so that parties labeled themselves as a liberal party. Background In Denmark liberalism became a dominant force in 1840, but developed into a conservative direction. After 1870 a second liberal current, based on farmers, arose. This current got finally divided in a social liberal party, Danish Social Liberal Party (''Det Radikale Venstre'', member LI, ELDR), and a conservative liberal party, Liberal Party (''Venstre Danmarks liberale parti'', member LI, ELDR). Liberal Students Of Denmark
The Liberal Students of Denmark ( da, Danmarks Liberale Studerende, often: ''DLS'') is a political student organization, with chapters in the major Danish university cities of Copenhagen, Aarhus, Odense and Aalborg. The organization's name has changed several times, and due to the autonomous status of the individual branches, some have traditionally preferred alternative names. The Danish Social Liberal Youth (Danish: Radikal Ungdom, literally ''Radical Youth'', abbreviated RU), is a political youth organization in Denmark, built around the ideals of social liberalism. ''Radical'' indicates a connection to 19th and 20th century radicalism, a connection shared with the organisation's mother party, the Danish Social Liberal Party. The current organization was founded on April 30, 1994 under the name Radikal Ungdom of 1994, after the former youth organization Radikal Ungdom was dissolved due to widespread fraud with funding from the Danish Youth Council. The organization bore the name Radikal Ungdom of 1994, until it was changed back to Radikal Ungdom at the organisation's national congress in 2015. Lars Løkke Rasmussen (; born 15 May 1964) is a Danish politician who has served as Minister of Foreign Affairs since 2022. He previously served as the 25th Prime Minister of Denmark from 2009 to 2011 and again from 2015 to 2019. He was the leader of the liberal Venstre party from 2009 to 2019. Rasmussen has been a member of the Folketing since 21 September 1994. He also served as County Mayor of Frederiksborg County from 1998 to 2001. Anders Fogh Rasmussen (; born 26 January 1953) is a Danish politician who was the 24th Prime Minister of Denmark from November 2001 to April 2009 and the 12th Secretary General of NATO from August 2009 to October 2014. He became CEO of political consultancy Rasmussen Global and founded the Alliance of Democracies Foundation. He serves as a Senior Adviser to Citigroup. He also served as a senior advisor at The Boston Consulting Group. Uffe Ellemann-Jensen
Uffe Ellemann-Jensen (, informal: ; 1 November 1941 – 18 June 2022) was a Danish politician who served as Minister for Foreign Affairs of Denmark in the Conservative-led Poul Schlüter Administration from 1982 to 1993. He was leader of the Danish Liberal Party Venstre from 1984 to 1998 and President of the European Liberals 1995–2000. In 1998 Ellemann-Jensen founded Baltic Development Forum, a non-profit networking organisation dedicated to the business development of the Baltic Sea region. Poul Hartling
Poul Hartling (14 August 1914 – 30 April 2000) was a Danish politician and diplomat. He was leader of Venstre from 1965 to 1977, and served as Prime Minister of Denmark from 1973 to 1975. Prior to that, he served as foreign minister from 1968 to 1971 under Hilmar Baunsgaard. From 1978 to 1985, he served as the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. Career Hartling graduated in theology 1939, became ordained as a priest, and later headed a teacher's seminary. He was a member of parliament 1957–1960, and again 1964–1977, and party leader 1965–1977. Hartling served as Foreign Minister of Denmark from 1968 until 1971 in the Cabinet of Hilmar Baunsgaard. Marianne Bruus Jelved (née ''Hirsbro'', born 5 September 1943 in Aarhus) is a Danish politician, who is a member of the Folketing for the Danish Social Liberal Party. She was elected into parliament in the 1994 Danish general election and had previously sat in parliament from 1987 to 1993.
