Laurence Parsons, 2nd Earl Of Rosse
Lawrence Parsons, 2nd Earl of Rosse (21 May 1758 – 24 February 1841), known as Sir Lawrence Parsons, Bt, from 1791 to 1807, was an Irish peer. Parsons was the son of Sir William Parsons, 4th Baronet and Mary Clere. He succeeded his father in 1791 to the baronetcy and to Birr Castle, King's County (now known as County Offaly). Between 1782 and 1790, he represented Dublin University in the Irish House of Commons. Parsons sat then as Member of Parliament (MP) for King's County from 1791 until the Act of Union in 1801. In the following co-option, he chose to sit for King's County also in the British House of Commons, a seat he held until 1807. In the latter year, he succeeded his uncle as second Earl of Rosse and Lord Oxmantown. He also served as Governor of King's County from 1792 until the position was abolished in 1831. Sir William Parsons, 4th Baronet of Birr Castle (6 May 1731 – 1 May 1791) was an Irish politician and baronet. He was the son of Sir Laurence Parsons, 3rd Baronet and Mary Sprigge. Lord Lieutenant Of Ireland
Lord Lieutenant of Ireland (), or more formally Lieutenant General and General Governor of Ireland, was the title of the chief governor of Ireland from the Williamite Wars of 1690 until the Partition of Ireland in 1922. This spanned the Kingdom of Ireland (1541–1800) and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland (1801–1922). The office, under its various names, was often more generally known as the Viceroy, and his wife was known as the vicereine. The government of Ireland in practice was usually in the hands of the Lord Deputy up to the 17th century, and later of the Chief Secretary for Ireland. Francis Hely-Hutchinson
Francis Hely-Hutchinson (26 October 1759 – 16 December 1827), styled The Honourable from 1783, was an Irish politician. Biography He was the son of Christiana Nickson, 1st Baroness of Donoughmore of Knocklofty and The Rt Hon. John Hely-Hutchinson. He served as Member of Parliament in the Irish House of Commons for Dublin University from 1790 to 1798 and then for Naas from 1798 until the Act of Union in 1801. He married Frances Nixon and had nine children. Their daughter, Louisa Frances Hely-Hutchinson married Francis Synge-Hutchinson and their son was Lt-Gen Coote Synge-Hutchinson. His son John succeeded to the peerages created for both his mother and brother. From 1800-27 he served as Collector of Customs at Dublin Port succeeding Theophilus Jones. Arthur Browne (1756–1805)
Arthur Browne (1756 – 8 June 1805) was an Irish lawyer, academic, and politician. He sat in the House of Commons of Ireland from 1783 until its abolition in 1800, as a Member of Parliament for Dublin University. Family and early life Browne was the son of Marmaduke Browne, rector of Trinity Church in Newport, Rhode Island, who in 1761 was appointed one of the original fellows of Rhode Island College, known from 1804 as Brown University. His mother, Anne Franklin of Bristol, died in 1767. His grandfather, the Rev. Arthur Browne, born at Drogheda 1699, was educated at Trinity College Dublin, becoming B.A. 1726 and M.A. 1729. In 1729 he emigrated, at Bishop Berkeley's persuasion, to Rhode Island, and was for six years the minister of Kings Chapel, Providence, and in 1736 he became episcopal minister at Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and died 10 June 1773. John FitzGibbon, 1st Earl Of Clare
John FitzGibbon, 1st Earl of Clare PC (Ire) (1748 – 28 January 1802) was Attorney-General for Ireland from 1783 to 1789 and Lord Chancellor of Ireland from 1789 to 1802. He was a controversial figure in Irish history, being described variously as a Protestant hardliner, a staunch anti-Roman Catholic, and an early advocate of political union between Ireland and Great Britain (which finally happened in 1801, shortly before his death). Arthur Edward Knox
Arthur Edward Knox (28 December 1808, Dublin – 23 December 1886) was a British sportsman, amateur naturalist, author of three books, and one of the founders of the British Ornithological Union. A. E. Knox graduated M.A. from Brasenose College in the University of Oxford. He obtained a commission in the Second Regiment of Life Guards, from which he resigned about 1835 when he married Lady Jane Parsons, a daughter of Lawrence Parsons, 2nd Earl of Rosse. The marriage produced three daughters and two sons, one of whom was Lawrence E. Knox. A. E. Knox was a country gentleman who lived in Sussex and Surrey and contributed notes to ''The Zoologist''. His 1849 book ''Ornithological Rambles in Sussex'' received a favourable review from his friend and country-neighbour, Bishop Wilberforce, helping the sale of the book so that a second edition appeared in 1850 and a third edition in 1855. William Parsons, 3rd Earl of Rosse (17 June 1800 – 31 October 1867), was an Irish astronomer, naturalist, and engineer. He was president of the Royal Society (UK), the most important association of naturalists in the world in the nineteenth century. He built several giant telescopes. His 72-inch telescope, built in 1845 and colloquially known as the "Leviathan of Parsonstown", was the world's largest telescope, in terms of aperture size, until the early 20th century.
