La Prairie (provincial Electoral District)
La Prairie is a provincial electoral district in Quebec, Canada that elects members to the National Assembly of Quebec. It notably consists of the city of La Prairie and three other smaller cities. Prior to 1988, it was spelled as one word: Laprairie. It was originally created for the 1867 election (and an electoral district of that name existed earlier in the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada and the Legislative Assembly of Lower Canada). Christian Dubé (politician)
Christian Dubé (born 3 October 1956 in Quebec City) is Canadian politician. He is a member of the National Assembly of Quebec for the riding of La Prairie, and serves as Minister of Health and Social Services. He was first elected in the 2012 election as the representative of Lévis for the Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ), and was re-elected in 2014. On 15 August 2014, Dubé resigned his seat to take a job at the Caisse de dépôt et placement. On 3 September 2018, Dubé announced that he would run for the 2018 election in the riding of La Prairie, replacing Stéphane Le Bouyonnec as the CAQ's candidate. 1973 Quebec General Election
The 1973 Quebec general election was held on October 29, 1973 to elect members to National Assembly of Quebec, Canada. The incumbent Quebec Liberal Party, led by Premier Robert Bourassa, won re-election, defeating the ''Parti Québécois'', led by René Lévesque, and the '' Union Nationale'' (UN). The Liberals won the largest majority government in the province's history, with 102 seats. In the process, they reduced the opposition to just eight seats (six PQ, two créditistes) in total. The ''Parti Québécois'' held its own, losing only one seat, and despite having fewer seats, became the official Opposition, although PQ leader René Lévesque failed to win a seat in the Assembly. The ''Union Nationale,'' which had held power until the previous 1970 general election, was wiped off the electoral map, losing all 17 of its seats. Saint-Jean is a provincial electoral district in the Montérégie region of the province of Quebec. It comprises most of Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu and all of Saint-Blaise-sur-Richelieu, Quebec, Saint-Blaise-sur-Richelieu. It was created for the 1867 Quebec general election, 1867 election (and an electoral district of that name existed earlier in the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada). Châteauguay (provincial Electoral District)
Châteauguay is a provincial riding (electoral district) in the Montérégie region of Quebec, Canada, that elects members to the National Assembly of Quebec. It notably includes the city of Châteauguay. It was originally created in 1867 (and an electoral district of that name existed earlier in the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada). Its final election was in 1936. It disappeared in the 1939 and its successor electoral district was Châteauguay-Laprairie. However, Châteauguay-Laprairie only existed for one election. La Pinière is a provincial electoral district in the Montérégie region of Quebec, Canada that elects members to the National Assembly of Quebec. Its territory corresponds to the city of Brossard, less its "P" and "V" sectors that are located north of Autoroute 10 and west of Taschereau Boulevard. Parti National
The Parti National was the name taken by the Liberal Party of Quebec, Canada, under the premiership of Honoré Mercier. Origin and beliefs It was founded on November 17, 1885, the day following the execution of Métis Leader Louis Riel. Many French-speaking Catholics resented the way the federal government of Sir John A. Macdonald had Riel hanged for treason. Mercier proposed to create a broader coalition which would include Conservative dissidents as well as his Liberal base. In the following days 50,000 people gathered in the Champ de Mars in Montreal to hear Mercier voice their support for Riel. The Parti National, which was not affiliated with any federal party, promised to use the influence of the provincial government protect the autonomy of Quebec and of its French-speaking and Catholic identity. Saint-Constant, Quebec
Saint-Constant is a city in southwestern Quebec, Canada. It is located on the south shore of Montreal in the Roussillon Regional County Municipality of the Montérégie region. The population as of the Canada 2016 Census was 27,359. History Early settlement took place in 1725 as a result of the opening of the St. Pierre concession. The Côte Saint-Pierre mission (first name of the parish) began in 1750 with the construction of a church and two years later, the parish registers opened.
