Loci Controls
Loci Controls, Inc. is a developer of wireless sensor and actor network (WSAN) devices. Loci Controls develops hardware and software utilizing a wireless sensor network to optimize the extraction of methane from landfills through better landfill gas monitoring, Background The company was founded by two MIT graduates, Andrew Campanella and Melinda Hale in 2012. Loci Controls received a grant from the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center in the amount of $40,000 USD in January 2014 as a partial section of its Catalyst Program. The program invests in new researchers and companies. Projects On 4 August 2020, Peter Quigley, Chairman and CEO of Loci Controls Inc., reported the launch of three additional RNG ventures in Q2, culminating in dramatically expanded market share. One in Dane County, run by BIOFerm in Madison, Wisconsin, and two in Texas, one with Mas Energy on the landfill in Arlington, Texas. Method Loci's technology is designed for energy producing landfills, by harvesting ...

Wireless Sensor Network
Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) refer to networks of spatially dispersed and dedicated sensors that monitor and record the physical conditions of the environment and forward the collected data to a central location. WSNs can measure environmental conditions such as temperature, sound, pollution levels, humidity and wind. These are similar to wireless ad hoc networks in the sense that they rely on wireless connectivity and spontaneous formation of networks so that sensor data can be transported wirelessly. WSNs monitor physical conditions, such as temperature, sound, and pressure. Modern networks are bi-directional, both collecting data and enabling control of sensor activity. The development of these networks was motivated by military applications such as battlefield surveillance. Such networks are used in industrial and consumer applications, such as industrial process monitoring and control and machine health monitoring. A WSN is built of "nodes" – from a few to hundreds or th ...

Methane
Methane ( , ) is a chemical compound with the chemical formula (one carbon atom bonded to four hydrogen atoms). It is a group-14 hydride, the simplest alkane, and the main constituent of natural gas. The relative abundance of methane on Earth makes it an economically attractive fuel, although capturing and storing it poses technical challenges due to its gaseous state under normal conditions for temperature and pressure. Naturally occurring methane is found both below ground and under the seafloor and is formed by both geological and biological processes. The largest reservoir of methane is under the seafloor in the form of methane clathrates. When methane reaches the surface and the atmosphere, it is known as atmospheric methane. The Earth's atmospheric methane concentration has increased by about 150% since 1750, and it accounts for 20% of the total radiative forcing from all of the long-lived and globally mixed greenhouse gases. It has also been detected on other pl ...

Landfill Gas Monitoring
Landfill gas monitoring is the process by which gases that are collected or released from landfills are electronically monitored. Landfill gas may be measured as it escapes the landfill ("Surface Monitoring") or may be measured as it is collected and redirected to a power plant or flare ("Collection System Monitoring"). Techniques for the monitoring of landfill gas Surface monitoring is used to check the integrity of caps on waste and check on borehole monitoring. It may give preliminary indications of the migration of gas off-site. The typical regulatory limit of methane is 500 parts per million (ppm) by volume (in California, AB 32 may push this limit down to 200 ppm). In the UK the limit for a final landfill cap is milligrams per square metre per second, and for a temporary cap it is (as measured using the Environment Agency's "Guidance on Monitoring landfill gas surface emissions" LFTGN 07, EA 2004). Surface monitoring can be broken down into Instantaneous and Integrat ...

Software
Software is a set of computer programs and associated software documentation, documentation and data (computing), data. This is in contrast to Computer hardware, hardware, from which the system is built and which actually performs the work. At the low level language, lowest programming level, executable code consists of Machine code, machine language instructions supported by an individual Microprocessor, processor—typically a central processing unit (CPU) or a graphics processing unit (GPU). Machine language consists of groups of Binary number, binary values signifying Instruction set architecture, processor instructions that change the state of the computer from its preceding state. For example, an instruction may change the value stored in a particular storage location in the computer—an effect that is not directly observable to the user. An instruction System call, may also invoke one of many Input/output, input or output operations, for example displaying some text on ...
