Urban Rail Transit
Urban rail transit is a wide term for various types of local rail systems providing passenger service within and around urban or suburban areas. The set of urban rail systems can be roughly subdivided into the following categories, which sometimes overlap because some systems or lines have aspects of multiple types. Types Tram A ''tram'', ''streetcar'', or ''trolley'' system is a rail-based transit system that runs mainly or completely along streets (with street running), with a relatively-low capacity and frequent stops; however, modern trams have a greater passenger capacity than traditional trams. Passengers usually board at the street or curb level, but low-floor trams may allow level boarding. Longer-distance lines are called ''interurbans'' or ''radial railways''. Modern trams also operate as self-propelled trains coupled through a multiple unit instead of individual trams and are often included within the broader term light rail; however, they differ in that trams ...

List Of Tram And Light Rail Transit Systems
The following is a list of cities that have current tram/streetcar (including heritage trams/heritage streetcars), or light rail systems as part of their regular public transit systems. In other words, this list only includes systems which operate year-round and provide actual transit service, not ones that are primarily tourist services, are seasonal-only, or are excursion-type tram operations. Some transit systems branded as "light rail" such as the Docklands Light Railway in London, Ampang Line and Kelana Jaya Line of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia qualify as metro systems (see medium-capacity rail system) and thus are not listed here – see List of metro systems. Only ''currently operational'' tram and LRT systems are included in this listing – tram and LRT systems that have "suspended operation" or are presently under construction are ''excluded''. Legend ; Location: Primary city served by the tram/streetcar or light rail system. ; Country: Sovereign state in which the ...

List Of Town Tramway Systems
This is a list of cities that have, or once had, town tramway (urban tramway, or streetcar) systems as part of their public transport system. Medium-capacity Rail System
A medium-capacity system (MCS), also known as light rapid transit or light metro, is a rail transport system with a capacity greater than light rail, but less than typical heavy-rail rapid transit. MCS trains are usually 1 to 4 cars. Most medium-capacity rail systems are automated or use light-rail type vehicles. Since ridership determines the scale of a rapid transit system, statistical modeling allows planners to size the rail system for the needs of the area. When the predicted ridership falls between the service requirements of a light rail and heavy-rail rapid transit or metro system, an MCS project is indicated. An MCS may also result when a rapid transit service fails to achieve the requisite ridership due to network inadequacies (e.g. single-tracking) or changing demographics. In contrast with light rail systems, an MCS or light metro runs on an entirely grade separated exclusive right-of-way, and is therefore completely separated from other traffic. In some cases ...

List Of Premetro Systems
This is the list of cities worldwide which have premetro systems. In other words: tram or light rail systems which are, or were, intended to be converted to full rapid transit systems. This list excludes similar semi-metro systems that were not designed to allow heavy rail trains at a later stage, nor full light metros. List Of Metro Systems
This list of metro systems includes electrified rapid transit train systems worldwide. In some parts of the world, metro systems are referred to as subways, undergrounds, tubes, mass rapid transit (MRT), metrô or U-Bahn. 204 cities in 65 countries operate 917 metro lines. The London Underground first opened as an underground railway in 1863 and its first electrified underground line, the City and South London Railway, opened in 1890, making it the world's first deep-level electric metro system. The Budapest Millennium Underground Railway, which opened in 1896, was the world's first electric underground railway specifically designed for urban transportation and is still in operation today. The Shanghai Metro is both the world's longest metro network at and the busiest with the highest annual ridership reaching approximately 2.83 billion passenger trips. The New York City Subway has the greatest number of stations, with 472. the country with the most metro systems is Chi ...

List Of Monorail Systems
A monorail is a railway system in which the track consists of a single elevated rail, beam or track with the trains either supported or suspended. The term is also used to describe the beam of the system, or the vehicles traveling on such a beam or track. Many monorail systems run through crowded areas that would otherwise require expensive tunneling or dangerous level crossings. Aside from mass transit and people mover systems, a large number of smaller monorails have been built in amusement parks and at zoos. Operational monorails These are lists of operating monorails that are open to the public. Only true monorails (vehicle wider than track) are included; see people mover for a list of monorail-like systems. There are also other monorail type systems used for human transportation not included, such as slope cars, mining monorails and farm monorails. Operational monorails - transit, people movers ''Systems used primarily for passenger transportation, characterised ...

List Of Suburban And Commuter Rail Systems
This is an alphabetical listing of cities and countries that have commuter or suburban railways that are currently operational and in service. Commuter and suburban rail systems are train services that connect city centres with outer suburbs or nearby cities, with most passengers traveling for work or school. Unlike metros or light rail these systems usually operate on main line tracks unsegregated from other rail traffic. They differ from regional rail in that they usually have a hub-and-spoke paradigm and are focused on moving large number of passengers to a central business district. List Of Urban Rail Systems In Japan
The list of urban rail systems in Japan lists urban rail transit systems in Japan, organized by , including number of stations, length (km), and average daily and annual ridership volume. Data is shown only for those areas designated as by the Statistics Bureau (Japan), Statistics Bureau of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications. Considerations There are several considerations for the data presented in this list. Station count Data is broken down at the line level, then rolled up for each specific railway operator. The total station count for each operator is a "unique station" count—an interchange station, interchange or transfer station between two lines operated by the same company is counted as a single station. As a result, summing together the station counts for all of the lines under a single railway operator will generally yield a value greater than the total station count cited for the operator. Some station pairs are officially considered interchang ...

List Of Bus Rapid Transit Systems
The term ''bus rapid transit system'' (''BRT system'') has been applied to a wide range of bus, trolleybus, and electric bus systems. In 2012, the Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP) published a BRT Standard to make it easier to standardize and compare bus services. The below list only includes BRT systems that are in operation or under construction. Legend ; Status (background color) * : Operational * Light blue: Under construction ; City: Primary city served by the buses and trolleybus. ; System name: The English name of the bus rapid transit or overview article for city. ; Description: A short objective description and subjective of routes bus rapid transit ridership and passengers (daily). ; Began: The year that the bus rapid transit began operating for passenger service. ; Stations: Stations connected by transfers are counted as one station, unless otherwise note. ; Length (km): Track length; lines which share track are counted once or Corridor ...
