List Of Medical Abbreviations
Abbreviations are used very frequently in medicine. They boost efficiency as long as they are used intelligently. The advantages of brevity should be weighed against the possibilities of obfuscation (making the communication harder for others to understand) and ambiguity (having more than one possible interpretation). Certain medical abbreviations are avoided to prevent mistakes, according to best practices (and in some cases regulatory requirements); these are flagged in the list of abbreviations used in medical prescriptions. Orthographic styling Periods (stops) Periods (stops) are often used in styling abbreviations. Prevalent practice in medicine today is often to forgo them as unnecessary. * Example: ** ''Less common:'' The diagnosis was ''C.O.P.D.''     hronic obstructive pulmonary disease** ''More common:'' The diagnosis was ''COPD'' Plurals The prevalent way to represent plurals for medical acronyms and initialisms is simply to affix a lower ...

List Of Hebrew Abbreviations
This is a list of Hebrew abbreviations. This list is far from complete; you can help by expanding it. Using this list Sorting order The entries are sorted according to the Hebrew alphabet. Prefixes indicating prepositions, conjunctions and articles (such as ) have generally been removed, with the following exceptions: *Where the acronym is incomprehensible or meaningless without the prefix. *Where the prefix is so integral to the acronym that variants without it rarely, if ever, occur. In addition, suffixes modifying abbreviations have been removed using the same guidelines. When searching for an abbreviation ending in a plural, adjectival, or possessive suffix like the suffix should be removed if not an integral part of the abbreviation, as described in regard to prefixes above. Depending on the typography, note that the gershayim () may either: *Move to the penultimate position, even if the mark falls in the modifying suffix and not the abbreviation proper; or *Remain in ...

List Of German Abbreviations
This list of German abbreviations includes abbreviations, acronyms and initialisms found in the German language. Because German words can be famously long, use of abbreviation is particularly common. Even the language's shortest words are often abbreviated, such as the conjunction ''und'' (and) written just as "u." This article covers standard abbreviations in colloquial and official use. It does not include abbreviations that are important historically but no longer in common usage, such as ''k. u. k.'' for Imperial and Royal and ''OKW'' for ''Oberkommando der Wehrmacht''. Types As in English or Latin, German written abbreviations consist of a letter, letters or partial words shortened from a longer word or phrase, such as ''etc.'' for et cetera. Acronyms are a type of abbreviation pronounced as a single word, such as Laser. Initialisms are abbreviations in which each initial in the abbreviation is pronounced separately, such as FBI. It is unsettled question in English style guide ...

List Of U
A list is a set of discrete items of information collected and set forth in some format for utility, entertainment, or other purposes. A list may be memorialized in any number of ways, including existing only in the mind of the list-maker, but lists are frequently written down on paper, or maintained electronically. Lists are "most frequently a tool", and "one does not ''read'' but only ''uses'' a list: one looks up the relevant information in it, but usually does not need to deal with it as a whole". Lucie Doležalová,The Potential and Limitations of Studying Lists, in Lucie Doležalová, ed., ''The Charm of a List: From the Sumerians to Computerised Data Processing'' (2009). Purpose It has been observed that, with a few exceptions, "the scholarship on lists remains fragmented". David Wallechinsky, a co-author of '' The Book of Lists'', described the attraction of lists as being "because we live in an era of overstimulation, especially in terms of information, and lists help ...

Three-letter Acronym
A three-letter acronym (TLA), or three-letter abbreviation is, as the phrase suggests, an abbreviation consisting of three letters. The term has a special status among abbreviations and to some is considered humorous since the term ''TLA'' is itself a three-letter acronym; it is an autological word. Most TLAs are initialisms (the initial letter of each word of a phrase), but most are not acronyms in the strict sense since they are pronounced by saying each letter, as in '' APA'' . Some are true acronyms (pronounced as a word) such as CAT (as in CAT scan) which is pronounced as the animal. Examples * Academic testing: ACT, SAT * Air Navigation Services ( ANS): AIS, ATC, ATM, ATS, CNS, FIS, MET, and SAR * IATA airport codes: LAX and LHR * Business: CEO, CFO, and other C-level officers * Canine registries: AKC and CKC * Chemistry, biology, and pharmaceuticals: GMO, LSD, and MSG * Clinical medicine: CAD, CHF, PSA, and SOB * Communications shorthand: LOL ...

Reporting Mark
A reporting mark is a code used to identify owners or lessees of rolling stock and other equipment used on certain rail transport networks. The code typically reflects the name or identifying number of the owner, lessee, or operator of the equipment, similar to IATA airline designators. In North America, the mark, which consists of an alphabetic code of two to four letters, is stenciled on each piece of equipment, along with a one- to six-digit number. This information is used to uniquely identify every such rail car or locomotive, thus allowing it to be tracked by the railroad it is traveling over, which shares the information with other railroads and customers. In multinational registries, a code indicating the home country may also be included. Standard practices North America The Association of American Railroads (AAR) assigns marks to all carriers, under authority granted by the Surface Transportation Board, U.S. Surface Transportation Board, Canadian Transportation Age ...
