A veterans' organization, also known as an , is an organization composed of persons who served in a country's Military, armed forces, especially those who served in the armed forces during a period of war. The organization's concerns include Veterans' benefits, benefits for spouses and children, veterans' Cause of action, claims, Posttraumatic stress disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) issues, and other topics related to veterans and to their families. In the United States, there are more than 7,000 U.S.-based nonprofit organizations assisting veterans and their families. American Veterans (AMVETS) is a non-partisan, volunteer-led organization formed by World War II veterans of the United States military. It advocates for its members as well as for causes that its members deem helpful to the nation at large. The group holds a Congressional charter, Federal charter under Title 36 of the United States Code. It is a 501(c) organization, 501(c)19 organization. American Ex-Prisoners of War is a service organization that aims to assist the surviving Military of the United States, U.S. military and Civilian prisoner of war (POWs), particularly those who are elderly and those who have medical problems. Based in Arlington, Texas, the American Ex–Prisoners of War was founded in 1942. It received a congressional charter under Title 36 of the United States Code in 1982. The group claims a membership of 12,000 members nationwide. The group is open to former American POWs of all wars and their immediate families. Its service officers have assisted POW veterans in securing medical services and other entitlements. The Academy of United States Veterans (AUSV) is a professional honorary organization with the stated goal of advancing the profile of organizations and programs that help serve the veterans community. AUSV is known for its annual Veterans Awards also knowns as the Vettys. The organisation came under close scrutiny by the veteran community after an article in ''Task & Purpose'' found that there was no real impact in the veteran community and employees "had no idea" what the organization really did.
