Joliet ( ) is a city in Will County, Illinois, Will and Kendall County, Illinois, Kendall counties in the U.S. state of Illinois, located southwest of Chicago. It is the county seat of Will County, Illinois, Will County. Arthur Schultz (July 4, 1933 – November 26, 2011) was an American Republican Party (United States), Republican politician. He was a five-term mayor of Joliet, Illinois, the then fourth largest (now 3rd largest) municipality in the state after Chicago, Aurora, Illinois, Aurora, and Rockford, Illinois, Rockford. He was last elected in April 2007. Prior to his first election, he served in the United States Navy and in the Joliet Police Department. He finished as the first runner-up in the Joliet City Council election of 1989, but when a sitting councilwoman died a few months after the election he was passed over several times for the nomination. This was controversial as the nomination is customarily given to the runner-up in the most recent election. Thomas Giarrante is a former mayor of Joliet, Illinois. Giarrante won the April 2011 election by receiving 26% of the mayoral votes in a field of nine candidates. He replaced outgoing Mayor Arthur Schultz. Giarrante was defeated for re-election as mayor by Bob O'Dekirk on April 7, 2015. Giarrante is a lifelong Joliet resident who attended Sacred Heart Grade School, Joliet Catholic High School, and Joliet Junior College. He spent 22 years as a firefighter, serving as president of the Joliet Firefighters Local 44 for 16 years. Giarrante has served on the Joliet Park Board and the Joliet Public Service Committee. Bob O'Dekirk ( ; born 1969/70) is the former mayor of Joliet, Illinois from 2015 to 2023. He was sworn in on May 4, 2015. O'Dekirk is a former Joliet police officer and is a practicing attorney in Joliet. Education O'Dekirk descends from Canaryville Irish in Chicago. He graduated in 1987 from Oak Forest High School, where he boxed and played football and baseball; in 1987 he was named All-Conference in baseball. He earned an undergraduate degree in 1991 from the University of Illinois and his degree in law in 2003 from the John Marshall Law School. Career Beginning in 1993 he worked for ten years as a uniformed and plainclothes officer for the Joliet police, winning the Martin S.
