This is a list of glaciers existing in Turkey, currently or in recent centuries. Climate Change In Turkey
Droughts and heatwaves are the main hazards due to the climate of Turkey getting hotter. The temperature has risen by more than , with the hottest year so far being 2024, and there is more extreme weather. Current greenhouse gas emissions are over 1% of the global total, and energy policy includes subsidizing both fossil gas and coal. Annual per person emissions since the late-2010s have varied around six and a half tonnes, which is about the global average. However historical emissions are less than 1% of the global total. The Directorate of Climate Change co-ordinates adaptation to climate change, which has been planned for water resources by river basin, and for agriculture. Climate change was recently added to school education. An emission trading system is part of a draft climate law, but the draft has been criticised for omitting coal phase out. Taurus Mountains
The Taurus Mountains (Turkish language, Turkish: ''Toros Dağları'' or ''Toroslar,'' Greek language, Greek'':'' Ταύρος) are a mountain range, mountain complex in southern Turkey, separating the Mediterranean Sea, Mediterranean coastal region from the central Anatolia#Anatolian plateau, Anatolian Plateau. The system extends along a curve from Lake Eğirdir in the west to the upper reaches of the Euphrates and Tigris rivers in the east. It is a part of the Alpide belt in Eurasia. Etymology The mountain range under the current name was mentioned in The Histories (Polybius), ''The Histories'' by Polybius as Ταῦρος (''Taûros''). Uludoruk Glacier is a glacier on Mount Uludoruk, one of the Taurus Mountains and the second highest mountain in Turkey. Cilo Mountain
Cilo is a Swiss manufacturer of bicycles that currently owned and operated by the Swiss E-Mobility Group (SEMG), part of the TVS Group. ''Cilo'' is an acronym for Charles Jean Lausanne-Oron. The abbreviation from the manufacturer's name ''Jean'' was changed to an ''i'' for ease of pronunciation in French. "Lausanne-Oron" refers to a holding in Lausanne, associated with the industrialisation of the city at the turn of the 20th century. Hans Knecht became world champion in 1946 riding a Cilo bicycle; other notable riders include Beat Breu, Daniel Gisiger and Tony Rominger. Cilo co-sponsored the cycling team Cilo–Aufina with Aufina from 1980 to 1986, and then Atari and Ciclolinea in 1992. Kaçkar Mountains
The Kaçkar Mountains (; , ''Kajkar''), formerly known as the Lazistan Mountains or the Mountains of Khaghtik(), are a mountain range that rises above the Black Sea coast in northeastern Turkey. With the highest peak, Kaçkar Dağı, at an elevation of , and mountain plateaus at about in elevation, the range is the highest part of the Pontic Mountains. The Kaçkars are glacier, glaciated mountains that are Alps, alpine in character, with steep rocky peaks and numerous mountain lakes. The area was declared a national park in 1994. Recreational activities in the park include hiking, camping, mountaineering, and, increasingly, heliskiing. The Kackar range boasts a wide variety of plants and wildlife such as wolves, bears, boars, feral goats, deer, jackals and wild chickens. Stratovolcano
A stratovolcano, also known as a composite volcano, is a typically conical volcano built up by many alternating layers (strata) of hardened lava and tephra. Unlike shield volcanoes, stratovolcanoes are characterized by a steep profile with a summit crater and explosive eruptions. Some have collapsed summit craters called calderas. The lava flowing from stratovolcanoes typically cools and solidifies before spreading far, due to high viscosity. The magma forming this lava is often felsic, having high to intermediate levels of silica (as in rhyolite, dacite, or andesite), with lesser amounts of less viscous mafic magma. Mount Ararat
Mount Ararat, also known as Masis or Mount Ağrı, is a snow-capped and dormant compound volcano in Eastern Turkey, easternmost Turkey. It consists of two major volcanic cones: Greater Ararat and Little Ararat. Greater Ararat is the highest peak in Turkey and the Armenian highlands with an elevation of ; Little Ararat's elevation is . The Ararat massif is about wide at ground base. The first recorded efforts to reach Ararat's summit were made in the Middle Ages, and Friedrich Parrot, Khachatur Abovian, and four others made the first recorded ascent in 1829. A glacier forms where the accumulation of snow exceeds its ablation over many years, often centuries.
